Weighed FERGY yesterday, 5 pounds. He was at 4 pounds Last Sunday when we brought him home. I agree they do not have much Bladder volume for several months. Since we retired from our business two years ago we think we have more time for doing little to nothing. That isn't the way it is however. We have been busy all our lives and probably will never stop. Taking in a new puppy is a big job for anyone and especially for this 90 year old individual and wife. FERGY is a handful of unbelievable energy that only stops when he decides he wants to retire into his pen and cushy blanket. Yes, he actually does tell us when he wishes to retire. Chip could do many things, even he didn't do these things at this age. Fergy has some slip-ups on potty-ing but not very often. Fortunately we have more time to spend attempting to keep up with him. Nice weather for a couple days now and he is eating it up. He and Laddie run, run, jump, (including off the porch to the ground) fortunately there is still a fluffy layer of leaves from last Fall where he lands. Never misses a step after landing. He is running before he touches the ground. He sounds delightful and oh, so smart. Gonna be hard to stay a step ahead of this little guy. Just remember though, he may start getting the concept of pottying outside, but physically they can't reliably hold their bladders until 6 months of age, so temper your expectations a little. Please keep the Laddie and Fergy stories coming!
He does real well if we take him out every 3 or 4 hours at night and every 1 1/2 - 2 hours during the day unless he has had a drink of water or nibbled at a piece of food he missed. We have trained all of our dogs to potty in the grass. Fortunately we have ample area the grass can grow in their yard. Set this little guy on a patch of grass and his job is immediate. When returned to inside the house he goes to the dining room table where his tiny little treats reside, sits down and waits for the handout before running off to somewhere he may have missed. BTW: His tail is going a hundred miles per hour.
Will never tire of a puppy in our home but we are usually ready for them to be grown-ups too!

Puppy Fever!!!!
