Freaking out here...

Wow I would be freaking out too, poor you and poor Emma! Will think of you tomorrow - hope they are able to get to the bottom of the problem (no pun intended). How strange. I know how worried you must be. Anxiously awaiting a progress report tomorrow!

Can't hardly sleep. Emma seems down tonight. I attached a few more pics. I cleaned the area good today while trying to express more 'stuff". The necrotic tissue is larger, the "hole" is bigger and the lump bigger than yesterday. Pics from tonight.

Thank you to everyone for your continued thoughts and prayers. As you can see, Noelle gave up her bed tonight in my office while we are out here so Emma could get cozy in it. The other dogs seem to know there is a problem. Sometimes I think our fur babies are smarter than us!

Poor baby, I hope she is feeling better soon. I'll pray the surgery goes well and that she recovers quickly.

I think her spots look better, look like they are drying up. Maggie did not get lethargic with her bites, could be the type of spider too.

Update: Just got home, had Emma there by 8 this morning. Doc is still baffled and decided to just open the wounds while I was there and express more; he said it had to be done on a daily basis by him; so I will be taking her daily for a week. He said at this point with so much fluid/infection still in the areas that it would be a huge incision with lots of stitches and he would prefer to get the areas down more before doing that.

I asked him lots of questions and and the possibility of it being MRSA? He said it was possible and has now taken a sample to send off for results. Now what??? I hate for it to be anything!! But would prefer it be a spider bite than MRSA! What about the other dogs in my house? Me? Has anyone had experience with this?

I may be jumping ahead of myself by worrying about this but thinking about it and how Emma is of course laying around the entire house with this open wound worries me. Doc wants it left open to heal. He gave me another medication (Baxtrim) to add with Cipro just in case.

I can not even think of any time around the house or yard that she has hurt herself (cut, nicked) ... the only thing I can think of (which the doc asked me) is she was groomed a little over a week ago at a different place than I usually take them. I was very unhappy with the results from this grooming place (a chain) because it didn't even look like they had even groomed Emma or Noelle as far as much trimming, poop trail, pads, coat on belly (no trimming) etc...I even took Noelle back over to them to show them they forgot to trim any part of her pads and talked to Emma's trainer there about how unhappy I was and would not bring them there again for grooming. Is it possible what I am thinking????

MRSA??? Ohhhhh boy!! :confused2::no:

Just wash your hands really really well and watch her contact with the other dogs.

I would question the groomer if there had been any ill dogs in recently, if it were me.

Correction on the med he added...it is SMZ

I will research it more, wondering how long it lives on surfaces. My dad had Hospital acquired MRSA and it was a nasty thing to get healed up.

My family is leaving for vacation on the 25th of this month (my ONLY vacation in 20 YEARS; can't hardly believe I haven't been on a vacation in that long) and I also worry because my friend that is staying at my house with the pups has had CA MRSA and I am sure she will freak out if that is what it is. Hoping it is NOT, but if it is, praying it will be ok by then (2 1/2 weeks).

My grandson? My daughter is pregnant....oh the worries!

Infection

This is just a thought but I have seen freakish horrible infections from pedicures in humans, when unclean implements are used.

After looking at your pix I think that it could be wounds from nipping your furkid with unclean clippers.

I would mention to your vet.

Good luck, kisses for your fur kid,
Best,
Kate

Infection

P.S.

My husband is an old farm boy and said that it looks like your baby might have been shot. The wounds have an entry and an exit. Just trying to give alternatives.

I lived in New Mexico for year and years and my little one, was once shot by a bb gun and the vet didn't figure it out. Xrays proved that the bb was lodged in her hip.

I am not saying that New Mexico is fond of shooting animals, just that it was what I experienced. I lived in the student ghetto at the time, right outside U of NM.

Best,
Kate
