Gavin's dotage

his torn knuckles were finally all healed up, and then bam! a day later this happened. poor guy is so used to the routine of soaking his paw now he just lays there for me.
not so much a fan of the red light thing as he doesn't get that something is actually happening (but if I leave the room he is off the couch like a flash!)

definitely more scab like, more blood red. even getting a little bit of blood on the gauze.
doesn't actually look better, though, except the edges are more obviously different from the skin.

yeah, well, I am seeing it several times a day so I guess I am used to it. Thats why I am taking pictures. the flash and light changes how it looks tho.
It's definitely not hot and it doesn't appear to be infected. the scab is still intact and not soft or anything. just a little blood around the edges.

If Gavin doesn’t lick it have you tried using polysporin on it? Couple years ago Piper cut his pad on a glass shard (I swear someone threw it in the yard, part of a broken bottle) and the vet told me to use polysporin when I changed the dressing. It has antibiotics in it and helps speed healing.

I am using an anti-fungal/ anti-biotic cream. not too much though. the scab is still soo big, but not soft. not sure how much penetrates. interestingly enough, when I use the red light, it shows different levels of darkness for the scab. it shows a darker bit in the middle and lighter as it got closer to his skin. the darker bit is getting smaller, which I am hoping is healing.

so we still have wound exudate at the edges, which is good. Gavin is chiliing on the couch with me. I've been spoiling him, letting him clean up my ice cream carton :) It's getting hot here again; I put a crate pad in front of my door where he lays on the tile. I'm hoping it will either discourage him from laying there or cushion things a bit.

he can't feel that paw, except maybe hot/cold (if the epsom soak is too hot he does pull back on that leg). he has no clue it has a wound. It is mostly in gauze and a sock. I only add a bootie when he goes outside.

It does appear to be kinda deep but that could be an illusion. the bit near his toes seems to be more of a surface scab.
