Gavin's Never Ending Dotage (Part 2)

Gavin has been like a new dog. he is so active now, like he's 12. I feel kinda guilty thinking I haven't been getting him enough activity the past 5 years, since he is doing so much since we have been here at Mom's. Of course, he does crash and sleep in the yard sometimes. And he sleeps really well at night. But it's so nice to see him pottering around the yard so much. I hope it stays dry for a long time so he can continue doing that. It's supposed to rain again on Sunday-Tuesday. so Gavin will be stuck inside to complain about not being outside.

Don’t feel guilty Cindy! Who knew he’d do so well? That you made that trip with such a senior dog is a true testament to the bond you two share. It must feel so good to see him so happy! He must be very happy having you around all the time, if you hadn’t gone you’d probably still be working and he wouldn’t have you around as much.
I was off work from February-August (my arm) and now that I’m back to work I hate it! I work a .8 and just bid on a .6 and got the job (it’s a lateral move, same job type just different hours worked). I’ll be working closer to home (5 minutes maybe) and if I need to go home for the dogs I can. I so looking forward to working less!

So Gavin has decided he misses me now but only when he is the house alone with Grandma. I leave for a grocery run once a week (and am unavailable a few hours here and there), and Mom tells me he looks for me. He goes into the closed off bedrooms, looks in the front rooms no one uses, until he eventually gives up. This is the same dog that can sit in the yard happily for hours on his own. Next time I leave I'll just put him in the yard and he'll be none the wiser!

The snow has completely melted and its 60 out! Gavin is loving the yard again :) The below freezing weather was a bit hard on me at least (snow boots, coat, toweling him off when he came back inside from a potty visit, using a different door)
He is getting more pats from the SIL and niece when they are over as well.
He just lays there and 'lets' them luv on him.

He is now officially 17 :)

Wow, 17! I'm in awe!!

So am I. He had 2 cancers, 2 surgeries, radiation, he's a functional tripod, has a HUGE lipoma on his hip, and he's still going strong!

I really wish I had that lipoma removed 2 years ago, but it was a matter of how big will it get and how long will it take (it's gotten really bad the past few months, but doesn't seem to bother him, he lays on that side often enough). It's on his only good rear leg, so I worry if I have it taken off that stitches won't hold and the healing would be a problem cause it's not a spot that can bandaged. 20/20 and all that.

I never guessed he'd make it to 17!
