Handler Novice Agility

That is so wonderful!!!! I don't know if we have books on velcro humans, however, I have a velcro dog, so what do I know? LOL. You'll be trialling in no time! Sounds like Toffee is doing an excellent job. Definitely has the makings of a natural. Unlike mine.

That was the point I NEVER thought I'd get to trial... goes to show not only the dog but I, myself, had confidence issues in his abilities...
you know he is reactive, hates puppies, doesn't like dogs in his face.. and is somewhat shy.
When he is in class now, and we are seriously only doing foundation work... you wouldn't know he had any issues... although he HAS to think things through, as do I! So no idea why I am surprised.... today he made friends with this HUGE Bernese Mountain dog girl.. I think Toffee was smitten! lol

Irene, that is awesome news! I'm so happy to hear that Toffee is doing so well. Isn't exciting to see the progress? And then you are happy and proud, and Toffee is happy and proud--it's a great cycle! Keep it up!

Agility is great for dogs to gain confidence. Koji was such a scaredy cat of everything (sorta). And now, it's like he has no fear. I have also met a lot of dogs who are like Toffee (at trials) that you would never know it IN the ring. Outside is a different story. So I always find it interesting that dogs with "issues" can run wonderfully.

As for the Bernese, at least he could rub against her like a cat? Through her legs, under her tummy, etc? LOL. So cute.

Yes, confidence is coming along splendidly! Also increased tugging with distraction around and a huge break through that the trainer could hold him by the collar to build drive through the tire... we just didn't make it a big deal.. we passed him off first me holding collar then her... she had ham and hot dogs, and voila he is like, oh this is a GOOD thing.. now what? you want me to jump through this thingee? OK.. let's go! lol

As to the Bernese.. she was a huge girl, I must say, but Toffee is a big guy so he couldn't get underneath it, but he kept pawing at her to play with him, which is unusual cuz he usually doesn't like Giants, he rather tells them off quickly, so that they won't go near him... :rolleyes2:

Oh yeah. It's amazing what some real food can make a dog do. lol. That's how we had to get Koji used to so many things. Using really high value treats. He started getting fat we were using so much. That's when I started to use his dog food. LOL. Poor thing, but he's gained so much confidence, I'm so amazed. Can't wait to see Toffee's progress over the next year (or probably less).

I definitely think Toffee is smitten with the Bernese. lol

amen sistah to the high value treats in class i have ham (half frozen, so super slimey.. Toffee thinks juicy..) and hotdog pieces... for new obstacles and for the 2o2o I am using hotdogs.. rest is dog kibble... lol

Our first fairly good weaves, 2x2 method

Although it is not easy to hold your dog by the collar get him revved up, hold the camera and have the toy ready to throw... I took a couple of videos this morning when I was trying for a few more weaves...
this is what this looks like...

FINALLY I am having fun with the weaves :)

I notice I am too late with my throw, I am going to throw sooner tomorrow, as I don't want him to look back for his reward :)
Note Boss Kitty watching the proceedings...

He is doing so well! I am sooo jealous of those weaves. I haven't been doing ANY agility at home because we've had like two weeks of afternoon/evening rains that make it impossible. Wonder how that's going to translate to class tonight!
