Meadow has arrived

Photo of the day - curled up with Uncle Eli looking on. He has sort of designated himself as babysitter. If she yaps or whines he goes to check her out. They play together pretty well. The big deal yesterday was Faith really had a good play session with Meadow. She seems to be defrosting a bit. :)

That is soooo cute, Sharon! Eli is a love. In my experience, it's always the girls who take the longest to come around and accept a newcomer. The boys are easier and more accepting. Years ago, it took my alpha girl six months before she accepted a newcomer!

Today's adventure was back to the shopping center. Walked around with a mask on and took her see/hear the shopping carts particularly. She seems unfazed by the noise. We peeked into the Big 5 Sporting store which was open ???? (oh, yeah, they sell guns) and had all the bored employees ooh and ahhh. Then meandered over to Petco which was open. So we went in and I handed her off to an employee who gave her some cookies and tucked her under her arm while she helped another customer find an "indestructible toy" for her Coonhound. :lol:

Meadow took all this in stride. We then went to look at the tanks of fish which she found fascinating. Pretty funny. Stuck our head into the grooming parlor where a big Lab mix was being shaved down and had the groomer all excited to see her.

Then went to say hi at our favorite restaurant that we've been getting take-out from, very dog friendly, community minded and family owned place. They all really enjoyed seeing her from a distance. She got tired out after about a half hour of this so we went home. It was a pretty good outing.
 
Meadow update. Housebreaking has been going very well after a couple of setbacks. I am SO GLAD I covered up my living room carpet. No matter how often we took her out (and she went every time) somehow she'd go again 20 minutes later. But we are on the upswing now as she seems she can hold it a bit longer during the day. I still take her out every hour and she is very good about going right away.

She is just a really wonderful dog. So brave and fun. Loves people, loves toys, loves food, has learned to sit for a treat just by watching the other dogs. We have started to train sit but she does so much from observing and copying. She has playdates with her BFF Hannah the Dachshund. Right now our friend is over with his two senior Labs visiting (yes, maintaining social distancing).

She is affectionate, but also so independent. She got me up early this morning, so after potty time and breakfast, we've been putting her back into her Xpen and going back to bed. She entertains herself without a peep for at least another hour! No whining or crying. Simply amazing. She has brought us lots of joy and laughs in these awful times. And all because of the slice of blue in her right eye..... lucky, lucky us!!
