Missing from Nova Scotia, Bandit

Hi Linda. Nice prayer from MallY's mom.:smile2: From what I was reading about the psychology of lost dogs I would retrace Walker's route as dogs follow the path of least resistance. Following railroad tracks, deer paths, trails, fields, streets etc. Bandit could be doing what Walker did. If you want I could find those web sights and post them. They also like to stay at the edge of woods if near houses. I just read about another dog lost through a whole winter and finally found. So glad you hooked up with the other ladies who went through what you are going through. They can empathize and can help you. Another lost dog was found after 6 months with no sightings until he got caught. So don't get discouraged. Praying Bandit finds his way home.
 
Actually, yeah, that would be great! I really want to learn as much as I possibly can, I think the more knowledge we all have, the better the chances are of getting Bandit (and other lost dogs, now and in the future) home, safe and sound. Contact with other people who have gone through this has probably been the main thing that has kept my hopes up, otherwise I may have given up all hope by now, so I think that is a good thing also for anyone going through this.
I really appreciate all the prayers as well!:smile2:
 
Bandit is definitely in better odds than astro. Don't give up and keep looking!! I didn't have any sightings two days after he went missing.the area was surrounded by forests I really hope he survived last winter and is now in somebody's home being looked after.

It will be a year next Monday since he had been gone. I still miss him terrribly but I graduated and left the country already thus really can't do much anymore... Maybe one day years later someone will scan for his microchip and contact me... One can hope, right? :(
 
Well, you know, it does happen. I just read recently about a dog found 8 years later, because of the microchip. Unfortunately I never had Bandit microchipped, never imagined this could have happened. I feel pretty stupid for that now, and when (yes, I keep saying 'when', not 'if') he comes home, a microchip will be one of the first things we will be taking care of. I'm hoping someone has her and is taking good care of her for you. I imagine the one year mark will be a hard day for you, and I'll be thinking of you that day for sure.
Actually, here in Nova Scotia, just this past Thursday night, a black lab that had been lost for 9 months and 4 days suddenly showed up at the neighbours house, about half his weight and not in the best of shape, but he's home, he's safe. They had NO good sightings the entire time, no idea where he has been. Really weird, but very exciting for the owners. Also there was a border collie, mostly blind from birth, that got lost for a few weeks, was found with a black bear, the bear was taking care of him. Nature is truly amazing, and I'm hoping to find my baby soon, and I hope that your baby has found a safe haven as well.
 
I regreted not making astro a tag. Because not everyone will take the dog to read microchips... But I was leaving the country in 6months and thought I'll just make him one later when we moved. So before alfie even came to me I made him 2tags already, and he's microchipped of course.

The stories you tell are very encouraging,I really hope you find bandit. The hardest thing for me was to stop assuming what had happened to him(I get so depressed) and just go out and do something that matters like handing out flyers. So don't over think too much and keep doing whatever u can!
 
Our breeder had all the pups tattoo'd, and registered with CKC, and when we had him neutered, the vets tattoo'd inside his ear, so I have the numbers from both of these tattoo's. He was wearing a municipal tag, I'm hoping that is still on. When I get him back, I will be getting him microchipped, and a really good tag, and I heard something about some people put all the dogs info on a flash drive & have it on their keychain, so I want to do that as well, and maybe even a flash drive with his info on his collar.
Overthinking is one thing I have a problem with for sure. Every possible scenario keeps running through my head, and I'm always looking for a new idea for the search. We may be having a search party soon, actually. And 2 nights ago, 2 standard poodles ran, not too far from me, so now I am looking out for them at the same time as I'm searching for Bandit. I know exactly what you mean about the depression. :(
 
Astro was also tattooed. But I hear they become hard to read in a few years. It's near Christmas, I hope all the lost dogs will come home to their desperate owners. Praying for bandit, for my astro and all the others hoping for a Christmas miracle.
 
I've heard that too about the tattoo's, but in September I was talking to the breeder on the phone (ok, I wasn't actually 'talking', I was bawling!), she checked Bandit's mother who is now 10 years old, and her tattoo is still quite visable, and the person who did that one also did Bandit's. I think probably the only way it wouldn't be very visable is if there was a lot of hair covering the area, which with shelties there usually is, but hopefully someone would look around for any distinguishing markers or anything. God, I'm hoping Bandit will be home soon, we had a possible sighting 2 nights ago near the Irving in Falmouth, so paws crossed again. Also praying that Astro is somewhere safe and loved. Just praying for them all, actually. :(
