Montys new kibble

O boy, just these last few answer bring up lots more questions.
1 Bowls on the floor or raised off the floor?.
2 regular bowls or slow feeder?
3 Do they eat standing up or laying down?
4 Fed 1 time per day 2 times or more?

Teddy slow feeder bowl on floor so he can lay down and enjoy 1/3 cup of food twice a day.

We feed in their kennels. I find that with our multiples, this makes sure each gets what they deserve and no more. It also makes meal time more relaxing. Brodie was always so slow eating, Kooper would inhale his food and move on to Brodie's. Then Brodie started inhaling food, often choking or regurgitating it. So into the kennels for meal they go! This came in really handy when we had 3 on 3 different diets. Food is in bowls, in the kennels, on their mats, twice a day, currently 1/4 cup each meal as I am hoping to get them each down a pound. I alter feed depending on their activity level and how they look. If they are more active during the day, I might up dinner to 1/3 cup. Our doxies were always kept lean with very defined waists - weight is a big problem with doxies and can lead to back issues so I am well versed in watching bodies and adjusting feed depending on it.

I have a waterer that is 3 bowls, holds a gallon. That sits up off the floor maybe 6 inches or so.

I use raised food bowls for all of mine, and a raised water bowl. It just seems that it's better for them both physically and digestively, especially with the seniors. Mine all eat in designated spots on the kitchen floor morning and evening. Laying down is never a thing here...the first one is done by the time I put the last bowl down!

My dogs bowls are on the floor but Piper lays down to eat (he just loves his food sooo much lol) and Finnie stands up to eat but then lays down to enjoy the empty bowls:ROFLMAO:. Blueberry eats and then tries to get her nose into the other dogs bowls (even though the other dogs would lose an ear if they tried that with her:lol:. My guys eat 2 x a day with a chicken foot for an evening snack...they get uber excited when I say winner winner chicken dinner! Barking galore!

Montys samples came today and rather than me tell you how it went I'll let Monty do it .
Now I wait for whether his body likes it...it's looking good so far haha

Monty is such a careful eater...chewing each kibble!! (y) Looks like the new food has passed Monty's taste test with flying colors! All my Shelties inhaled their food...zero chewing... I have always told them I hope they have taste buds in their tummies so they can actually taste and enjoy what they inhaled!!!

Faith has a slow-down bowl because she does inhale her food and I was always afraid of choking. Meadow eats in her pen because she would pester the others. They all eat on the floor, standing up, each dog gets 1/2 cup twice daily and several water bowls in the house. Of course, they all try and drink out of the smallest water bowl at the same time! :rolleyes2:

Going by another guys bowl is not a good idea here. Even water bowls. Though once a guy leaves it is communal. All my guys have taken food serious :ROFLMAO:

Monty eats off a slightly raised doggy table with just regular bowls, 2 x a day (morning / evening) I don't need the slow feeder as he is the slowest eater I've ever known haha.

lol He is so slow, I don't know if it's because of his teeth after the accident but he takes forever lol. I know how you feel, my Harley used to just suck the whole dish up in one go haha. If they are ever sick after then the whole unchewed kibble used to come back :rolleyes2:

Darren, this reminded me of our long ago Malamute named Mystery. He was iffy in the car, sometimes car sick, sometimes not. One time we all went out for hamburgers and got one for Mystery too of course. He inhaled it in one gulp, bun and all, and just as we were getting home he upchucked it...still in the bun and in perfect condition except for a slight covering of tummy slime!!
