New puppy... maybe

I think I’ve gotten everything I should need to start with. They have a collar that fits her but I have a martingale and body harness. Either she’ll grow in to them or they’ll fit and I’ll be replacing them sooner rather than later.
I’ve never had a puppy before. At least not in foreeeeever. Like since I was in sixth grade. So.... almost 30 years ago. I hardly think that counts.

My sister saw all of her “stuff” and said it looks like I’m prepping for an actually baby. But then when she got her dog from the shelter she said all she bought was a leash. :rolleyes2:

I think the last thing I’m going to get is a bag. So I can start taking her out places before her shots are done and keep her up off the ground and secured so there’s not wiggly puppy nose dives and my hands are free so I can still do what I need.

Any suggestions on fencing? We don’t have one now because taking one out on a walk is easy. I want a vinyl picket style but I don’t really know of shelties are climbers. Watson is basically a cat so he never would have had the determination to climb anyway. View attachment 15100

I can't recommend the inside pen Gloria posted enough- Minnie loves it, we love it!! Also, we took Minnie everywhere before her shots were completed. I got her at 11 weeks old and never worried about it, I just didn't put her on the floor at the vets office! Puppy fun is coming your way!

At first Sandstorm did not like Minnie, now? I really think he loves her! It takes time. Minnie had to be put in her place more than once!

Our vet feels the same way. Just no face to face with dogs of unknown vaccination status until she’s finished. She’s fine walking on the ground. We visited the bike and ski shop already... we’ll probably go visit there again tomorrow. And Friday I think we’ll head to one of our satellite offices and meet some new people and see lots of new things!

These are all very encouraging. I know that this is what I should expect. I think he needs to adjust to her... exuberance. That or she needs to adjust it down for him.

I intended to have a fence up before the snow flew but, we’ve got about six inches already so that will be a project for spring. Which I think is fine, we’ll be through the bitter cold and then the only thing I need to worry about is the mud.

I think maybe she’s going through a growth spurt. The last two days she’s been a sleepy little pup. She’s noticeably taller and she gained exactly one pound in the week since her first vet appointment.
 
Beautiful sheltie. I miss mine and there are so few around. I have a miniature aussie and he is
a barrel of laughs, lots of fun.

The best part is you can make it smaller or larger by purchasing more panels... so easy to set up and takedown. I would travel with it when I visited friends.
Best investment I made as I did not want to use the crate all the time.
