Oh the joys of painting

Well i have been reading the threads on diseases and illness in our lovely shelties and it just broke my heart to read that so many of us have suffered a scary illness with our pups i thought i would try and lighten the mood a bit, so here is my story:

It's summer and almost too hot to go outside, very humid, sticky and yucky, so i had a brilliant idea that i was tired of white walls in my kitchen, in the 2 bedrooms, the hallway and the living room, way too much white so i decided to paint! I finished the hall way and kitchen in 2 days, sleepless nights of course. Then came the dreaded living room, heres the good part, i had the 2 cats locked in my room for the majority of the painting time, and Riley either outside or in my parents house but i decided why not let the cats out they will be fine the paint is dry enough, then i walk over grab Riley to go outside and he runs over to my house os i think well he wants to go home why not i'll grab dinner with mom and dad then go home and finish the job. Well after a 20 minute dinner i go home and first thing i notice... footprints both big and small all over the hardwood.. uh oh. I turn the corner and i see Riley sitting on the floor just looking up at me as if to say, "you mean i wasn't suppose to play in the paint you carelessly left out?" Well what a mess but i had to laugh because all you see is a trail of footprints leading from the tray of paint to everywhere else, would have been cute to leave them, but i decided against it:wink2: All was well i got it cleaned up as for Riley and the kittes there paws are a little more colorful than before and Riley had one ear with a paint spot on it, it's almost out now though, haha such a shame it was a good look for him :smile2:

Aww! Please tell me you took some photos?

Im glad he didnt eat the paint. Paint is toxic. The first thing Bailey wouldve done was stick her snout in it.

How cute but a little frustrating too I'm sure, at least you could laugh about it. I know when I paint I always have painted shelties. They love to lay against freshly painted walls so I end up with swish marks in the paint and shelties with some very interesting highlights in their hair.

Cute. When we painted, I was soooo paranoid about having a painted pups that they were crated during (when we couldn't close off the room for ventilation) and then when we were done, they weren't allowed in the area for like 5 days. Over cautious, maybe... but upstairs we have carpet, not wood!

Thanks for sharing.

Thank goodness no one ate the paint no, but to be safe i purchased an organic based paint so while its not edible its not toxic, i get frequent mirgranes from strong smelling things so i always try to get paint that has no odor or virtually no odor. Also no one had any paint near their mouths so i assumed no one decided to eat it. Thankfully i had hardwood! Carpet would be a totally different story and probably a totally reaction from me.

We have painted with Lady and Maggie around and they ended up with the tips of their sides painted from brushing up against the walls. Our cat once joined Mark on a ladder to paint.

Funny thing is last time we picked out paint they are all a shade of Sheltie Tan.

That brought back memories of a painting mishap my mom had. Jo(my lab) was about a year old,I was about 14yrs and came home from school and my mom was painting the livingroom. I ask were Jo was and she said she was in the backyard and don't let her in until she's done. At the exact moment the backdoor flys open and in runs Jo and my younger brother though the kitchen into the lvigroom like the thundering herd. My mom yells and Jo swerves around the paint can but my brother goes to jump over it and lands with his foot in the can which goes flying and lands all over him,the dog and the carpet.:eek2: My mom was so mad. My brother and the dog survived(barely after my mom was though with them), the carpet was not as lucky.

reminds me of a chapter in Merles Door, lessons from a free thinking dog. The writer built a new house and the dog walked through the freshly clearcoated floor. He had them come in and re-do the entire floor except for the spot where the dog stood overlooking the whole cabin.

If it were me, I'd probably leave the pawprints ;)
