Barb I am as hurt for you and Bacca as you are. If only everyone could pull together for the good of Bacca instead of tearinig you apart.

I know people have mentioned various other Doctor's for you to contact and let me add to that list a personal friend, Dr. Jean Dodds. She is a forerunner in liver problems for dogs and has her own lab and equiptment that is breed friendly.

If you email Jean she will be right back to you asap. She cares she understands. Just look up her name and addresses will be forthcoming.

So sorry you have to be going through this, and I marvel at the restraint you showed by ONLY throwing a credit card at their office.

Barb, you have my prayers for a total recovery for your sweet Baca. I do have to say this in response to some of the previous posts of you and others though...while it may seem that the vets you have been working with are trying to make as much money off you as they can, I just have to disagree. Of course a specialist is going to want to run their own tests, especially bc your docs pics were inconclusive. And, yes they may have different opinions on what the findings are. As mentioned before this is not an easy disease to diagnose. Vets put in a lot of time on their education and work hours you wouldn't believe. Many vet offices have their own ultrasound, xray, lab, surgery suite, laser machine,dental tables, pharmacy ,grooming and food. They are mini hospitals offering most of the same diagnostics that we humans can have. But this is not without a cost- both in training and initial cost and maintenance. We work long days,really long days to offer pets and their owners the best care we are capable of. Sometimes we will fall short and some days we will exceed abundantly...every day will have a death of patient and a broken hearted pet parent crying on my shoulder. Every day will have a rolly polly puppy waddle in with sweet puppy kisses and everyday will have have splashing body fluids everywhere. And every day will have groans at costs and yelling about wait times and flying credit cards. Your vets and their staff have invested their lives to the welfare of animals and yes they do look for a monetary profit too-doesn't everyone who owns a business ??!! Ask your docs what tests they are running, how much they will cost and what other options there might be and LISTEN to what they say.Weigh it all out and if you can live with it go for it. If not don't take it out on them. Climbing off my soapbox now... :hide

Thanks Mellie, and everyone! I've had now a week or so to chill on this file and think it through and decide on next steps. My vet took a very timely vacation so that's given me some breathing room to figure things out a little. (unfortunately, I lost my internet for 3 days, so I now have to quickly come to speed with my options).

I agree, I think I need to contact Dr. Dodds, expecially if she is as available as you say. I don't want to discount my vet and the specilists and do more expensive tests just to get a second (third??)opinion. I honestly don't know what to do.

I'm at a loss. Spend $5,000+ on a seemingly healthy dog (except for the skin funk and blood work) or wait it out. :gaah The vets will tell me, for sure, surgery now....

It is best to call her and she will most likely have you fax all of your test results as she had me do with Gypsy. She called me within minutes of receiving the faxed tests.
 
Barb...I am so sorry to read about the problems that Bacca is having. My thoughts are with both of you.
Sir Dash is my third Sheltie and I must admit I have been very fortunate....none have have a serious illness or injury. I am not sure how I would emotionally handle such a situation.
