Poor Fillion - but they are so stoic, it is so hard to know for sure if/how much they are hurting. Glad to hear the adjustment helped and hopefully he will hold onto the re-set. Don't be too hard on yourself. You are extremely conscientious with your pups.

If it will make you feel any better, on our Sunday outing at a usual place, Meadow somehow found a whole raw hotdog in the middle of a grass area - so random... she wolfed it down while we were yelling "NOOOOOO!" and Arden even chased her to try and get it away but it was Arden 0 Meadow 1. She just ate it faster. Took her straight home and gave her some hydrogen peroxide, 3 separate doses, 10ml total and all we got was burps. Texted our retired vet friend and he said he wouldn't worry too much about it. And the little stinker was FINE, no vomit, no diarrhea. Took another year off my life I was so worried it was either rotten/spoiled or poisoned.....:(( :gaah

Scary about the coyote - yes, outdoor cats don't live long where we are. We have so much wildlife, the dogs are never outside without us.

I am not sure what kind of fence you have, I think you showed it at one point. Is anything on the other side? Can you install say a solar powered electric fence line like what they use for cattle and horses? A few strips on poles a foot or two off your fence line. Probably would degrade quickly in your sun and heat.

We have motion detection lights all around our property. Had them installed a few years back when our son got in trouble and we were creeped out. Always meant to install cameras but never did. (I do have cameras to watch my chickens though!) I love them now. Take the dogs out at night and the whole back lights up on it's own. I do see the lights come on during the night, mainly deer, possum, raccoons or such waltzing through although we did have a resident fisher cat under our woodshed for some of the winter this year. He was creepy and they are beautiful but so very dangerous. Thankfully, he moved on.
 
We have a big coyote problem here, and I've seen them even during the daytime in the yard. They are fast, bold and fearless. I keep long-distance pepper spray right by the door if I see one. There's no way I would ever let any of my dogs out after dark without me standing there with my high-powered light to scan the area. The coyotes have been so bad this year that I don't even leave them alone outside during the day unless I can see the yard. I know too many people whose dogs have been carried off.

I'm glad Fillion is OK and you dodged this bullet, but if you've seen them once, they'll be back. I know it's frustrating not to be able to let the dogs have their freedom, and I've paid the price in Sheltie cabin fever, but I'd rather have them safe. Don't beat yourself up, you've taken precautions now. Just be careful and be vigilant, they will come after people too.
 
We only have a three foot fence due to former restrictions placed by the golf course when it was operating years ago. When I said he hopped the fence, I meant hop. 6 feet doesn't seem to slow them down any, according to neighbors on our FB neighborhood forum. One guy said he saw one come over his 10' fence, grab a chicken and go back over! 25 years I've been here now, and this is the first they have been so bold. My neighbors putting out food and water doesn't help! Sheriff was called on them, I think they stopped--but the damage has been done. They aren't speaking to me anymore, even though I didn't call it in.
I just had to stop typing this to run outside--the pack was back! The airhorn and ultrasonic device didn't really work. He didn't jump in the yard, but he didn't run off scared either! He trotted away. The other two across the fairway stayed over there. I need a pellet gun.
 
I am so glad that Fillion is feeling much better...these little dogs are SO stoic...if only they could talk "human" and tell us that they hurt. Kudos to you for getting him the help he needed...he is lucky to have such a good doggie Mom.

it's incredibly hard to tell when they are hurt- you're lucky to have a chiropractor close enough to take your sheltie to. I can only really get mine to one when the chiropractor comes to the agility trials- otherwise it's 2 hours to go to the office.

coyotes are scary- cause they're not scared.......

It not only keeps coyotes out, but keeps dogs in that try to leap the fence. You might want to check it out. We even have coyotes here in Western Pennsylvania so my dogs don't go out in the dark alone.

They can sting, they can scare, but they can't do permanent damage or injure. Son thought it would be funny when younger to 'shoot me in the back' in front of his friends as I was walking in to basement from garage. The door didn't shut as fast as he thought it would and he nailed me in the back. I survived and so did he - the look on his face was priceless!!! :)
