Our Little Dante...injury :(

Poor little boy...

Wish he was not in so much pain...

Pain management is the way to go for now!

Saying prayers that his vet appointments go well. :fl

Blessings being sent your way!

Hang in there little one... so many care about you! :hugs  :hugs

Sunday update for our Dante.

Everyone has been so supportive over the past week+ as we have struggled to get the pain under control for Dante...thank-you.

As of yesterday Dante is able to eat 100% normally, and to bark 200%normally , so we are pretty confident that the jaw bone has reset naturally...which should be confirmed by X-rays this week.

There are still incidents when he yelps with certain movements and our vet is sure this is due to his neck issues (severe degenerative disc disease in #5,6 and 7). However even on this issue he has made significant progress which is probably due to the preds reducing inflammation. If good progress continues we will not have to have him put under for an MRI on his neck.

So...we still are not 100% out of the woods, but things are definitely looking much more upbeat. Management of activity to keep his neck safe will be the challenge going forward...Dante is an active little lad who specializes in 100 MPH zoomies with sharp turns...which is how he ruptured his ACL last year and had to undergo surgery. His spirit is just too big for his tiny body!!

Trini:

This is indeed great news about little Dante! Please add my prayers and well wishes to the long and growing list of support you have already received. Not only for his recovery, but for a long and productive life moving forward. Of all of the info you have shared so far, I found the following INCREDABLY profound:
... His spirit is just too big for his tiny body!!

What an amazing thing to say about anyone (two legged or four). Dante must truly be an incredible soul. (Excuse a small aside: When you have time, please explain how you settled on Dante as the name for your little wonder pup.)

Jeff...Thank-you for the long term well wishes for Dante. :smile2:

Dante came to us at 6 years old with his name already given. I have at times changed the names of some of the rescues we have fostered or adopted if they came from really awful backgrounds. Sometimes a totally fresh start, with a new name that hasn't been used as a "punishment" is really important. But little Dante came from a loving home where sadly life changing circumstances ended up with him and his "brother" Dakota coming into rescue. Both he and Dakota have multiple health issues but both are wonderful souls who love life and are determined to live it to it's fullest in spite of their physical struggles.

Dogs are so much better than most humans at just accepting what life hands them, not feeling sorry for themselves, and finding joy in what they can do. They can teach us so much about how to live life if only we are willing to "listen".

A barking pom is a happy pom. Glad he feels like barking! I know that the sound is sweet music.
Honey, a pom as well, had degenerative disc disease, and pain management was the key for several years. I used tramadol, prednisone, and eventually metacam. Numerous supplements as well kept that her little pom spirit thriving for a long time. Her barking let me know that she was having a good day.

Wishing you a Dante many good days days, full of barking.

Just picking up on this thread now, poor Dante! It sounds horrendous and there is nothing worse than hearing a dog in pain. He is a lucky boy though to have an owner like you looking out for him. Hope he is feeling better soon!

So glad to hear he is on the mend!!! Hooray! Funnily enough, on our typical Sunday walk this morning at a nature preserve, we ran into a guy we hadn't seen in ages. He rescues Poms! He has 3, a senior gal of 16 (!!) who is a doll, a little black bear guy like Dante who is 4, and a tiny squirt who is two. Our Shelties certainly liked all of them and vice versa. They seem like compatible breeds. I do like them, myself.

I could not have received better news today!!!

My heart is just jumping for joy!!!! Happy dance!!!!

I can not begin to tell you how happy I was to read your recent post of Dante's positive report!!

So glad he can eat and bark!!! Prayers and well wishes sure does feel good when you see these results!

Hope his back mends as well!

Keep us posted and give a soft kiss on the cute little snout!

Blessings from me and the boys!
