Prayers for Logan please...

OMG I was ELATED to see your post, Gloria! Yesssss! I'm sure your heart lept with joy. All fingers and toes crossed that he will stabilize for you and regain some appetite! You know, I was going to suggest you try some canned pumpkin.... mine are all mad for that and it's easy to digest.

Big hugs and a YAHOOO! for you and Logan.

Sharon, yes, I have tried pumpkin be for and non of my dogs like it. Not sure why.
Thanks for the big hugs and I will be sure to pass it on to Logan!

This is an article someone sent me this afternoon. It might be worth showing to your vet and seeing what he thinks. I honestly don't know enough about Chinese medicine to comment either way and I would definitely not try any of this without asking your vet, as the data was obtained using rodent models, not canine. But since Logan seems determined to defy the odds, maybe this would help him. Disclaimer: I am VERY leery of things like this but I also know that they can be helpful IF the ingredients can be obtained safely. And ultimately, I want you to have every bit of information you can to help the little guy out. But PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE know that I am just presenting information and not necessarily recommending this.

Well, last night and this morning Logan would not eat anything again...

I have an appointment this morning to get subQ fluids and I hope it will get Logan back on track to eating...

If this treatment is what he needs, I want to ask the vet to show me how to do it.
Going to the vet and hauling Logan around in his weakened state cannot be good for him.
If I could give insulin injections to Jasmine I should be able to learn how to do subQ. Personally, I HATE needles...

Has anyone here had experience with administering subQ fluids at home? Did it help to extend the life of their pet?
For how long did you administer it? 1 week, 1 month, for the rest of the pets life?

Any other information you can share, Logan and I would certainly appreciate it!

Gloria, I did subQ fluids at home. I you have given insulin injections, you can do subQ fluids. It is certainly not fun doing this, but I did not have any trouble with Cody, he was such a trooper. He would quietly lay down through the entire process. We did it ever other day, and we did it for the rest of his life. Did it help? I would say yes. He was in the very late stages of the disease, and it seemed to make him comfortable. However, we still struggled to keep him eating. We would put the bag in the microwave to warm the fluid up a bit. Room temperature seemed to bother him (he would shiver), since it was a good bit cooler than his body temp. If cost is an issue, you can buy the fluids online. Our vet sold the fluids at his cost, it was about the same as the online price. If you have pet insurance, they should cover the costs of fluids and the needles. All in all, it is definitely worth a try.
