Trini - I hope the vets can do something so your little Pixie recovers. It sure sounds as though she is in excellent hands.she gets back home to you soon.
Thank-you, Eva.
Pixie is home this evening...a very tired little girl with a sore lower chest area where the incision was made in order to get the needle biopsy of liver tissue. The biggest concern from today's long and intense ultrasound however turned out to be her intestines. The ultrasound showed a serious thickening/change in the intestine walls that may indicate gastrointestinal lymphoma. Right now our vet wants to wait for the liver biopsy results (typically wait about 2 weeks) before proceeding with biopsy of the intestines...if lymphoma cells are found in the liver it will pretty much confirm that the changes in the intestine walls are due to lymphoma also and he will know there is no reason to put her through another biopsy.
If gastrointestinal lymphoma turns out to be the dx, survival without chemo and surgery is only about 3 months max...with aggressive treatment (surgery/chemo)the survival can be up to one year+ at best. I won't put my little Pixie through aggressive treatment when the chance of a cure is zero. Our goal will be to keep her comfortable for as many days/weeks as possible and then let her go peacefully.
Obviously we are praying that lymphoma is not the confirmed dx...but I know there is nothing we can do to change whatever is to come. I feel emotionally drained tonight and tears flow easily. If only it didn't hurt so much to love these precious little souls.

Thank-you again for caring.
