Question on colors

Deb: I do not mean to add to your stress. I have to tell you this awful thing I did when I was about 12 years old. My family had a bi-black border collie, purebred not registered, that came into heat. It was unusual then to fix your female or male, so the house was surrounded by all sorts of male dogs. My parents told us children that they didn't want any puppies and she could only go to potty when supervised. One day I came home with a friend and nobody else was home. We were curious about what sex looked like, so we let in one dog and watched them go at it. When the puppies were born, my family could not figure out how it happened and I sure didn't tell them. Is there anybody that has an extra key to your house or could someone have broke in when you weren't home?

OK everyone, unfortunately I have to step in here. I know nothing about colors, but I do know unreasonable and inappropriate dialog when I see it. Please ratchet down the level of discourse, and save me from taking further action.

We can, and should, be able to discuss issues such as this without rancor. I would also like to point out that it is difficult, if not impossible, to assess any dog from photographs. Clearly we have some color experts here, and I certainly defer to your expertise. But I think it's time for one and all to agree to disagree and move on. Otherwise, I will lock down this thread.

Now, take a deep breath and go pat a Sheltie.
 
This is something that would really upset me if I was a buyer, to think I was buying a pure bred sheltie when really, the father is isn't a sure thing :no:
 
Something similar happened with one of my girls. When I first got her it took 3 extra months to get her AKC paperwork because her sire was DNA'd and turned out that the sire on his paperwork wasn't actually his sire, so my breeder had to wait for the breeder that she got her male from to come up with the actual sire before AKC would give me my paperwork... it was such a mess and I feel sorry for anyone that will have to through that with these pups later on down the line. At the very least they should be sold with limited reg. and a spay/neuter contract so they aren't passing on these unknown genes...
 
I like that the ad specifically says 'champion bloodlines: yes'

I also notice there's also been no mention of whether or not the double merles are deaf?

That's just horrible. Not only lying to the AKC, but lying to the buyers as well.

It's because of reasons like this (and people like this) that brindle showed up as a Sheltie color...
 
I went through the Anthro site-

Listed the mother as a 'Cryptic merle' (tri) and the sire as a bi-blue


The ONLY possible offpsring are- Blue merle, tri (bi factored) and double merle




-So even saying the mother is a cryptic- there is no accountability for 4 out of 5 puppies being sable.

the ad is - $600, listed as regisistered, and listed as sable CHW

People, this says it all in a nutshell. Makes me sick, and I think we need to spread the word far and wide amongst the sheltie community.
