Rally Training

Okay. I'm getting nervous now. And I totally forgot to work with Miko last night. Oops. Oh, I know why. I was at agility class. Duh. :rolleyes2:

More work on keeping him close to my side. He still flares out. HOWEVER, after one night, he's sitting closer to me. He's coming in close, but when he sits, he still backs up. He's still far away though.

More work on going around. I've already conceded that I'll fail that sign. Oh well.

I'm nervous! Ugh.

The judging schedule came today. Can anyone help me figure out how much time is needed per dog so I can guesstimate what time Miko will have his first run. Thanks!!

BTW, Miko is on "vacation" as we are going to Vegas this weekend. Therefore, he's at daycare all weekend long and no training. But back to training on Monday night. He'll probably be tired, so I'll keep it short.

Rally is scheduling is set up to be about 22 dogs an hour or about 2mins and 47 secs a dog. Some teams will go faster and some slower. Most judges I know design courses so that it takes about 1.5 to 2 minutes for an avg speed heeling/working dogs to finish so they can stay on time if a dog takes 5 mins to finish.

So look at your schedule and find the start time of the ring and count the dogs in front of you and times that by 2. If they change form classes ie advance to novice there will be time for course changing and 15 min walk though. Be aware of absent dogs and fast dogs could push up the time. Rally can move very quickly.

I got the judging schedule Thursday. yeah there are a total of 15 dogs. LOL. I guess Rally will be done fast. 2 in Novice A So Miko should place hehehe.

BTW the judge lives in the city where I grew up. maybe I should leave a treat. LOL just kidding of course.

Make sure you arrive early, so Miko will have some time to get used to the atmosphere.
Also, the walk through for Novice A and B are usually at the same time, so it will be 15 minutes before whichever is scheduled first. Usually B goes first, but it depends on the club.
Don't hesitate to ask the judges questions. They are usually very helpful and are happy to answer your questions or concerns during the walk through. Lastly, check in as soon as you get there, so you can get your course map, know what you'll be doing and can practice before your run.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the advice!

Miko should be fine as he rarely is phased by "location". The only thing that'll phase him is wet grass or rain. LOL. He's such a good boy.

I'm hoping that my two classes won't clash. I don't have a judging schedule for the agility yet, so no clue how many dogs are doing that. If it's as litle as the rest, it seems like it'll be a short day (at least for me).

I'll definitely get there and check in and get my course map. I'll be nervous with this and agility going on at the same time, so I'll need to just calm down and relax. ;) Do you know if I need to take Miko with me to "check-in"? Since this will be his first trial? i.e. with Koji, you need to get him measure. I know no measurements are needed on Miko, but not sure if they need to "see him". Or is it typical AKC agilty check in. Grab your number, your course map, and you're good to go?

Nope they don't need to see him. :smile2: Just go up to the table at ring side(of your ring) tell them your number and class and your get your arm band, rubber band to hold it on and course map.

Good luck with the trial !

All the best with the trial.

Just don't do what I did last weekend: in my exuberance at the end of our Novice course, I picked up Snap. Lost 3 points for picking him up in the ring. Nothing like learning the hard way !

I can't believe you guys didn't tell me about the ribbons and how they work. :eek2:

My trainer was telling me to either let them know I won't be there for the ceremony or try to make it regardless if I place. I was like, huh? What are you talking about?

I guess in Rally (this is what she trains/competes in) you guys have a ribbon ceremony. And hand out the ribbons to the dogs that placed. I'm so glad she told me, because in all the agility trials I've been to, the ribbons are in a plastic container and you go get them yourself whenever. Yikes! How embarrassing would that have been. I would've been "one of THOSE agility people" lol.

At least now I know....regardless if they do it that way or not. Just can't believe no one told me.

Here's his video from training this morning. He's a little slow because this was his 3rd run. But doing well. Sitting closer when he does a front. Yay.
