Rupert!!xxxx

I don't know if you're still having trouble with him crying when he's away from you, but one thing that has worked for puppies of various breeds in the past is to leave either a radio or tv on very quietly -- just until they get used to going in the crate. The sound seems to soothe them. We also put a stuffed animal in with Callie from the time we first got her, and she seemed happier if she had something to snuggle with.

Rupert is a doll! I know I'm biased, but I don't think there's anything much cuter than a Sheltie puppy.

Much better now - if he does complain, its for about five minutes and then he settles. I had been leaving on the fairy lights, small lamp and TV when actually leaving the house. When I pop upstairs (I don't bring him because there is carpet) he squeals a little but as I say, not for long. He is just very nosy I think! He now seems to be understanding his name and sssshhh so I can nip it in the bud a little. He has a garfield teddy he curls up when in his crate. He is quite happy to pop in there for a nap without being asked. He is very cute. He got his last shot yesterday, so I will be able to start bringing him out for walks and visits from the 20th on-wards. Cannot wait! Should be fun!!! :smile2:

Small Rupert update! He has discovered zoomies! I saw so many posts where people talked about these but never where quite sure what it meant til I saw it happen. He also had his first snow experience, it wasn't very much and he did not seem bothered. He is becoming much more consistent with using his pee pads, he only had one mistake today, everything else was on the pad. Have these right at the doors so will be starting to get it moved outdoors very soon. His first week at work with me went fine and we just have one more before the holidays.

Hope we get some decent snow this year Trini so we can get out in it. Not long to wait until he is able to get out and about! Then it will be outdoor zoomies!

Zoomies are great fun, Matsuki. He just did another batch this morning before we headed to work. He does skid a little on the tiles and wooden floors but he seems to like that. No accidents yet!

Rupert and I have been working on some basic obedience and a few silly tricks as well. Last night I focused solely on obedience. We did stand, sit, heel, come, down and place. He did all of them (amazing how motivational chicken is :wink2: ) a few times, he finds place & heel the hardest to get. I only do it for maybe five minutes and leave it then and repeat it later. He can do sit and down anywhere now, without treats or clicker. The others are very new and will take a bit more time to get right, but he did stay really well last night!! Not bad for an 11 week old! :smile2:

Yes, chicken is a fantastic motivator! You are doing a wonderful job with Rupert. Shelties are such a joy to train because they are so bright and typically want to please their person...and the short 5 minute training sessions are perfect for a young puppy. WTG Rupert and Mom!!

Thank you - I wanted a dog that I could do lots of fun stuff with and hang out with and it seems he is it. Its early days yet and I am sure we will have our ups and downs but I am very glad we got him.

Clever boy! Not bad at all for 11 weeks. He sounds very bright and eager to learn. Great job both of you :smile2:
