Tully - lots of tests and now a diagnosis

Dang it Caro if anyone deserved a break it would be you, and Tully. :( I hope by today she is better - and that your own issue is not something too serious. Good grief. Sending love and healing energy to you.
 
Hope she is feeling better. I remember when Hollie was on steroids, they made her pee like crazy. She wasn’t too bad with food.
 
Tully's ok, still has soft poop and was eating grass this morning. But she's very lethargic. She thinks she's got energy to do something but loses steam quickly. At our therapy visit yesterday she spent most of the time under the art table. And when we go on a walk she wants to go for a long time but then runs out of steam. I hope it will settle down.

I need to put the toilet bells up, not that Tully ever learnt to use them. Deska loved them too much and would ring the bell just for fun - the cheeky bugger - so I took them down. Last night before bed she raced out to the toilet so I guess I need to take her more or get the bell set up.

Spoke to Delta yesterday as they're setting up the certification for April. They are ok with Tully being on steroids but won't accept titer instead of vaccs (which is the opposite of the US Delta). Not sure what to do as vaccs make Tully sick (all medications make her sick) and while she's on the treatment we need to avoid chemicals as much as possible. The Delta visits is the one thing she gets so much joy out of still. If she misses certification this we can't be certified again because she's over 10yrs - which is a little unfair because they don't base that cut off on the breed.

Update on Tully. We've added another drug to the high dose of prednisolone, it's another immunosuppresant, when it kicks in we'll be alternating the pred and the new drug (azathioprine). She's not doing that well and it scares me. While she's up for a bunny chase because her joints are feeling better, she is very lethargic. She gets smelly farts too (Tully never farts, she's a lady) and upset tummy.

She isn't coping that well with the Delta visits either. She loves going, runs around visiting everyone and then conks out and lays under the art table. She's also a little cautious with some of the clients, and so many of the clients want to pick her up. I will cut her visit down to 30min but I don't want to stop as she still really loves it and she is still lonely.

The other thing I worry about is her immune system and picking up something. Wondering if we should avoid other dogs and places like the park and dog club.
 
Perhaps it's a good thing they're alternating the prednisone with the other drug. As I recall with my last dog (she was on prednisone for at least a year until I took her off of them) she was very tired...she'd sleep all the time! And the farts...oh my! I was tempted at times to kick her off the bed, not to mention the recurring bladder infections she had...over and over again!
I'd worry too Caro about the dog parks and such with her being immunosuppressed, she could pick something up easier than a healthy dog.
Awful that Delta won't recognize titers...if Tully has had problems in the past with vaccines then she shouldn't ever be vaccinated again.
You guys have had so many things going against you, I really hope things start to look up for you! Maybe this new drug and the cut in the prednisone will make Tully feel more like herself again!:fl:hugs
 
I know how hard it can be to accept that sometimes what we think is our dog's normal is no longer their normal.
Needing more rest is a normal sign of aging....and meds can really mess people (and dogs) up. Just be easy on her :)
Nothing you can do about the flatulance, though...my sympathies!
 
I can't believe Delta won't accept titers--and that there's an age limit. How upsetting. Are there other organizations in your area that she could register with instead?

Sending good thoughts that she's feeling better soon.
