Updated Recall Information

Salmonella is bad in dog food because it makes humans sick. They don't think to wash their hands. The point is quality control is supposed to be checking these animal foods to make them safe for animals and humans and they clearly weren't checking the food.

The dogs getting sick is another story and why I believe there is more to come on this recall issue. Seizures and Salmonella don't mix and I've heard many dogs having seizures from TOTW.

I agree with you, something else is going on here. Doesn't make sense. Rachel got a email from her distrubution center as she had order half a dozen bags of TOTW. They are taking he stock she has left back even though ithe bags not on the recall list. My brain goes what aren't they telling us.

I think it is quite obvious there is more to this story. After digging into these people. They told lies, they want confusion. They fear lawsuits.

Diamond made it look like all of Wellness was tainted, Wellness pulled ONLY the puppy food (not contaminated) for safety reasons because it was made at the Diamond facility. Diamond listed Wellness but did not state all the other food was fine.

I mentioned to the girl I was talking to at Diamond, why can't you be more precise on what is contaminated and what isn't? Like the cat food some is contaminated and some isn't. They just list the dog food, but don't enhance anything on the brand. Oh that is a good idea she remarked. Its like getting textbook answers. Lets make Wellness look bad.

I had to fill out my name and so on for a return on the dog food. Above for the store they wanted a comment. I asked the girl if I could fill her part out.
I asked to please write CLEAN YOUR FACILITY UP. I bet its has never been cleaned properly since the last recall and that is why the situation continues.

That's scary. There seems to be a lot of questionalbe components. I'm also not a fan of the map they keep posting about 'affected' states. This food is shipped all over plus a lot of people buy online. I think it's giving some a false sense of security that they aren't affected due to the map. I've had several people on FB groups I'm a part of say they arent' worried they aren't in one of those states. I'm not saying anyone should panic but at least check your bags. I have a girl in Northern California who has an affected bag so obviously the product has spread well beyond their maps.

My dogs were on TOTW and I was going to switch anyway due to not being happy with their weight/coats in the last several months. This just made me be certain I'm not moving to another Diamond produced brand.

Apparently, there must be a big huge nasty mess in there. Remember when take4roll10 found a completely different looking kibble a few months ago in her bag of TOTW? That is cross contamination. That is why everything is now contaminated, because they have no quality control.

Thank GOODNESS Randi found that kibble and reported it here. I was on TOTW and because of that, decided to find a different brand. I had TOTW on my rotation, and I rapidly dropped it out. Now I am a bit panicked about any other brands and am just rotating through the grain free Fromm varieties.

Thanks for saving us some potential problems, Randi!

I covered the recalls several years ago and talked to all the dog food companies who would go on the record (Several wouldn't...no surprise.) The lesson I learned from that experience was at the first sign of any recall/problem/questionable reaction to a food you are feeding, get your dog off it immediately! Don't wait for confirmation of the problem or your dog to get worse. Better safe than sorry. There are still foods on the market such as Go, Now, Fromm and others whose representatives will give you clear information on where and how they make their food. That's the kind of manufacturer I want to buy my food from. Another good food that frequently gets overlooked is Merrick -- family-owned, made at their own facility in the U.S.

I'll repeat the link here that I posted at the start of this thread on switching your dog quickly from one food to another. It has some good advice on doing an immediate transition.

Thank you Ann,for the link on the past recalls.

Merrick,I might add is a fantastic food, family owned, operated. A great choice for anyone wondering.

I'm doing a rapid move to another food for Tinsel. The bag of TOTW is not in the date stamp but has the correct numbers for the recall. While he seems fine I don't want to risk him. I will have to go and check numbers on other foods as I don't want to feed him the 18% fat that Acana has for longer than necessary. I sure hope he has a strong constitution. I can't imagine having to try and keep his back end clean if he gets the scoots as he is not a willing participant in grooming yet.

I bet I missed that post when I was sick with the flu for six weeks. Thanks Dani. Darn! I would have taken the dogs off of TOTW now. I tossed all the food away and I am just sticking to Wellness. I am fortunate they didn't get sick. Thanks to everyone and Randi for all the updates.

I got a kick out of the cashier yesterday when I returned the food. Diamond put the FRESH NEW FOOD ON THE SHELVES, and she replied I sure wouldn't buy the crap. Some people did. They told me too, people were searching the store for Wellness for their dogs. The store had some nasty calls and shopppers too. I feel sorry for the stores. They thanked me for being so nice, I told them its not their fault.

Wow, I'm sure you're completely right! I totally forgot about that thread that Randi started, thanks for bringing it up again!

I was really shocked to hear that any of Wellnesses foods were made in a facility other than their own, I had thought they had their own independent facilities. I'd still trust them since they're doing the right thing by recalling their puppy formula in case of cross contamination and their in the process of moving to an independent facility.

Thanks for the link Ann!

I'd just like to add as a reminder to everyone that Acana and Orijen have their own independent facilities too and have never been involved in any of these tainted food recalls to my knowledge.

I'm glad my post helped you out! That is proof right there that their foods do have cross contamination.

I still have that bag. I did still use it for treats up until about 3 weeks ago, but I did change Bailey's food permantely in the beginning of March and it is not a Diamond product.

Finding different kibble in that bag of food was the last straw for me.

I checked the bag last night and the production code does match the recall, but the best by date does not. Either way, Bailey isn't going anywhere near that food.
