vomitting trifexis

I just read this warning from my breeder's yahoo group.

Whatever you do...DON'T GIVE YOUR DOGS TRIFEXIS. HEARTWORM MED.. My Jack is in the hospital..we tried trifexis for the first time yesterday (his interceptor has been off the market). and by 8 pm symptoms started...I had to take him in at 7 am..lethargy..confusion..tremors with a twitch every 15 seconds..no appetite..he looks like he's on an acid trip..his gut is drawn up...all symptomatic of poisoning..vet called company ...they admit some problems..will pay for blood panels on internal organs for toxicity reports but won't pay for rest of treatment...so many people will be trying this drug due to not being able to get the discontinued interceptor or sentinel...tell all your dog friends... NO TRIFEXIS...EVER !

yup I wouldnt touch it with a 10' pole...ever read what they put on their site and pg dogs...yikes...it just seems overly toxic from what ive read and heard...

This is so awful, I am so sorry! Don't crucify me here but, I have been Megan and Toby trifexis and haven't had any problems at all. We normally use Sentinel :gaah

I keep reading the concerns and terrible reactions here on the forum, of course it worries me also. What is a better alternative?

I am in Md. and we have been getting in some Interceptor at our practice, maybe call your vet and see if they can locate some for you...

Interceptor is the same as Sentinel and from the same manufacturer. It just doesn't have the extra flea medication that Sentinel has.

I know this topic has been covered before and I did look for it, but too many to sift through. For those of us who used to use Sentinel, what do they use now or what is recommended? :pop

:smile2:

Interceptor is a flavored tablet and protects against whip worms and Heartgard is a flavored chew and does not kill whips...both kill heartworms, hookworms, and roundworms. They are different drugs; there was a thread with the resident doc's comments not too long ago...seems like Interceptor should become more available in your area soon b/c our practice has been recieving our backordered shipments. I use Interceptor but do not use topical/oral flea/tick meds.

You will probably get more responses if you start a new thread for this question.
