We need more flyball shelties

I hope so Mr Sca, but I iz very impatient. I haz been watching all the other dogs and I know exactly what to do! Mum says they might let me start in October!!!

Sometimes I think that Lexi would be a much better flyball dog than an agility dog if I had started her off as a puppy. I think she has all the essentials!

--Fast
--Excitable
--Tremendous ball drive

She will chase something stationary if she's excited enough!

I don't have the time (or money) to train her in both flyball and agility, but I do want to see what she thinks of it! When I win the lottery we'll do both

She would have a nice edge on starters since she knows 'jumps' Crossing at the start might get her at first though. In Sca's case it is because that approaching dog OBVIOUSLY wants to play, I am thinking Lexi might be a bit timid. Though even on that after a bit it is her teammates so that is probably OK

I totally get this. The only reasons I can do both is that my team doesn't charge for practices once you are on the team and that I'm not competing in both at the same time. One competition (either one) a month, and I'm so far from competing in agility, I don't have to think about it.

We got to go check out the flyball building last night. It was interesting! Lexi was far more interested in smelling all the smells and chasing her friend Baci than chasing a ball...I think that she was tired which didn't help things.

I did get her to go up and take the ball of a practice chute (is that how you spell it? it's a box but it didn't eject the ball) and rewarded her for that.

We brought home a board (flat box, basically) that has velcro on it. The instructor recommended putting it on the ground with a jump in front of it, then slowly raising it up. I am a little confused though...is Lexi supposed to go over the jump, get the ball, and come back over the jump? There isn't much room (since the board was right next to the jump when she showed us it as an example). I think she said that idea was to get her to put all 4 feet on the board.

Yep 4 jumps then bank off the box catching the ball and back. I think fast dogs are a stride a jump. The hardest part for Sca was the go get. He still desn't get in on fetching stationary toys but tell him to get the ball and is gone now. The best part is when he goes by accident and hits the box then looks at the loader like come on I need it to swap for a cookie.

The jump directly in front of the practice box is to make the dog jump high on the box to make them do a swimmers turn rather than hitting the box straight on. The idea is they develop 'muscle memory' before they move on to the box proper without the extra guides. Tully is back on to having a jump in front of the box because she's stopped doing swimmers turns which is bad on her tendonitis so we're going back to intermediate training in between comps.

That's great you have the stuff to practice on. With Lexi doing agility she will have the jumping and running at a distance down pat, it will just be a matter of getting that turn perfected.

and picking up the ball.... Sca would go down and back pretty soon but leave the ball  plus since the ball was not important he was half speed that direction. He is pretty revved up now and if there is jumps he just goes through them when playing.
