2011 ASSA Nationals

It is waaayyyy too soon, but I've already talked to the hubby about opening up Hotel de Chelle. One guest bedroom + one couch. Coming up on the 2012 Nationals, I'm sure it will be filled.

how nice of you!

I have family in west palm beach. I think I will have to pay a visit in 2012. :biggrin2: Too bad it's not in 2011. I will be down there in the spring.

I'm a bit jealous there. So far St. Louis is the closest I've seen it to PA and that's still a 10 hour drive. Kissimmee is nearly 17 hours (though I'd probably only drive to DC and take the Amtrak Autotrain down to Florida from there if their rules for traveling pets was decent).

in 2006 it was in VA beach...That was a good one...closer to me...It was the last one I went to...planning for this year already:smile2:

Does anyone know when the premiums typically open? How neat! I wanna go. I am going to try to get to our local Sheltie Specialty. The club said it'll probably be in November. I'm keeping an eye on it. It'd be so neat to see sooooo many Shelties!
.

This is my clubs Specialty and it will be November 13th & 14th in Moorpark. We have conformation, agility, obedience, rally and CGC testing. This is a link to the clubs event page. http://web.mac.com/rchamlee/tvssc/Events.html There is an email link under agility and I'm sure they can email you a premium if you'd like to enter.

Since you are in SoCal and in case you are interested 4 of the clubs are getting together and doing a 'super' match on Sept 11th. It'll be at Portola Park in Santa Ana. There will be conformation, obedience and rally and it's all sheltie I believe. There is info for it on the left side of the events page as well. There was also talk about a herding instinct test but I'm not sure if that will happen or not due to the heat and having to deal with and transport ducks.

Our club also does an all breed agility trial in Ventura in April depending on what area of SoCal you are in :)

Why, yes it is!!! unfortunately, the Sept one doesn't include Agility. Boo. However, if I"m not doing anything I'll stop by to see all the cute Shelties. Do you know if it's okay to bring my two if they're not participating?

I'll probably make the trek for the Sheltie Specialty in Nov and now that Koji is more proficient in AKC, I'll definitely be there in April (I didn't go to this past one because I would've entered one event on one day, not worth it to drive to Ventura).

I plan to attend and compete in the 2011 sheltie nationals. It's only 5 hours from me. Hopefully I'll have a bunch of dogs in agility (IF it doesn't rain. I do NOT run my dogs in rain, as it's not worth having them injured), a couple in rally, 1 in obedience, maybe 1 in herding, and maybe 1 in conformation. Should be a busy week for me.

As I recall in the past, the ASSA tries to have the agility in a building or under cover. I would think that a facility like the Purina center would be able to accomodate this.

It's really not that bad...

I don't understand why they are having agility outside though! If you can have rally and obedience inside why not agility? It's in April! You know it will rain! Then all of the puffy dogs will be soggy and limp.

Skipper's first trial was held in Memphis, TN. The course was on a sloping hill (about a 45 degree angle), and the score tables were at the bottom of the hill. The storm was so bad, there was an announcement made that we were under a tornado warning and if any one sees a funnel, warn the rest of us. The rain was pouring on our heads, and I could barely see the next obstacle. The score tables were flooded about a foot and a half. I had to stand in the water to wait for my ribbons (BTW, Skipper took two double Q's with all first places). SO! Yeah... We trial in that kind of weather.

It is harder to find inside trials in our area because it takes a certain surface type to allow the impact of jumps and such. The last time I went to Houston, the entire agility ring was on concrete with carpet under neath. Every where else that has had agility indoors was either on turf or packed dirt. A lot of times, clubs don't want to go through to expense of finding such places. There is a trial the first weekend of December at Haughton (close to where the Oak Grove Training facility is) that is covered, but it's not indoors. It's always nice and cool weather during that time, and I think you'd enjoy that one. :)

At the nationals, every day holds a different event. If there is some one entered in agility and conformation, and if it rains during the agility section, the owner/handler has plenty of time to prep the dog back up. :wink2:

Just know that if it ever in Texas or possibly Oklahoma I will 100% be in the office at work begging and crying for them to let me have off. :biggrin2:

Dad is going to retire in a few years, but when he is the states if he is not at home he is almost always in either Ft. Hood, Ft. Seal, or Ft. Brack. So on the weeknends and the evenings I would have somebody to drive me around for free.

You know how I get lost. :uhoh:
