Best time to go emergency vet?

Gavin had a bad night. he wouldn't settle down, pacing up and down the hallway and he was panting. He had already been pottied and such, but we went out again. Didn't help. I gave him another gabapentin (side effect is too much will make a dog drowsy). Went out to the complex dog potty area. still unsettled. went to my backyard again. He finally settled (probably when the second dose of gaba kicked in).

He at least doubled his daily activity if not more with all the pacing. so this morning he wasn't up for much with his stroller walk.

I hope he sleeps well tonite...

Last evening was good. Today was good so far as well. he's walking well and following me around. still falling while pooping through. Even in more uncoonstricted areas, his poop walks tend to be tightly wound circles and he inevitably twists his bad leg under the good until he collapses.

But I think we are having some good progress.

And he is still snuggling with me in the morning and evenings :)

Snuggling is good!

Nothing new to repeat. Super snuggly. Not much walking on the stroller walk though. He seems to be standing better for longer lengths of time. He is also getting a little more independent on the peeing front. I'll carry him outside and down his little ramp to a good pee spot, and he'll walk right up the ramp and go pee in a different spot on the other side of the deck.

Gavin has always been carried a lot :) at least since he had cancer anyway. Its been very useful, actually, that he is used to it. He lets anyone pick him up and carry him, makes him a vet tech favorite!

he has put on most of the weight he lost. so no more extra goodies :)

Great that you got the weight back on him, Cindy!
Mr.Chance loved to be picked up as a senior too! He was light enough to have his front legs across my shoulder! When the blessing of St Francis was at our local church I took him and he got his blessing but was to weak to walk back to the parking lot. I just scooped him up and tossed him over my shoulder and you should have heard the comments of folks saying how sweet! He just ate up all the attention!
Keep up the good progress, Gavin!

gavin isn't quite that light! hes 30-35, so its more awkward to carry him long distances if only because he has a positional collapsing trachea. If I hold him upright (which is easiest) he will start coughing/gagging after less than a minute. but he lets me carry him anyway I want. people eat it up when his head is laying on my shoulder though :)
