Big Boy?

There are a bunch of height charts that can be use to help determine size. I think that 6 wks is alittle young to tell but 8wks is better and the older they are the more acuate they are. Different lines grow at different speeds so it helps to know your lines. There growth guidelines published in Sheltie Talk.

Here are some charts:

Mind they don't always follow the charts. Ember was looking like she was going to be about 14.5" and then at 5 months she slowed down alot and at 6 months she stopped and just made 13". Her brother looked to be about 15.5 and he took off and hit 17". Her sister was looking to go oversize and ended up at 15". That is why alot of breeder will grow out show shelties pups-not only for overall conformation but size. If they then go over they will place them.

Dr. Sheli she just guessed at 6 weeks by weight then knew for sure at 8 weeks. But then we really won't know till they are grown out.

Che is one of those giant shelties he is 17 1/2 and 30 lbs at 6 month and he has huge paws and large collie like muzzle.... I think if the pup is looking like he is going to have collie like muzzle he is going to be large and small not well developed muzzle will indicate stay in or go under due to prominent pomeranian genes

I think my new boy will be a super size guy. I don't really mind, I was looking for a border collie when I found him. :smile2:

Maverick is 16 1/4 inches and weighs approximately 27 lbs.He did not come with papers so he could have so Border Collie in him. Ryder was kept for a show dog but at 10 weeks they knew he was going to be too big. He is close to 17 inches and weighs about 25lbs.

Yup! Beckon (aka Norwood Beckoning Breeze, out of Pop Star SS of Northern Farm and Norwood Nenana), is 20 inches. :eek2: Bluest blood of Sheltiedom and big as Babe the Blue Ox!

Colonel Underpants is 20 inches!! I think Sandstorm is 18, I will have to measure again.

I thought we had a big boy with Mikos 18" and 28 lbs at 14 months, but after reading this thread he's not as jumbo as we thought!

Justus is 15 weeks old and tonight measured 15" on the wicket. I hope he doesn't continue to grow an inch a week. :eek2:
