There are a bunch of height charts that can be use to help determine size. I think that 6 wks is alittle young to tell but 8wks is better and the older they are the more acuate they are. Different lines grow at different speeds so it helps to know your lines. There growth guidelines published in Sheltie Talk.

Mind they don't always follow the charts. Ember was looking like she was going to be about 14.5" and then at 5 months she slowed down alot and at 6 months she stopped and just made 13". Her brother looked to be about 15.5 and he took off and hit 17". Her sister was looking to go oversize and ended up at 15". That is why alot of breeder will grow out show shelties pups-not only for overall conformation but size. If they then go over they will place them.
