Dog Wheelchair

I am still working on getting him able to get on the couch. Hopefully soon. he needs less 'help' everyday. He is able to stand on the BOSU and first step much better now. His tripod stands are lasting longer too!

He can use the ramp to the bed a bit now, too.
That's wonderful news Cindy!
You are THE most dedicated Sheltie mom.

Gavin is not doing as well today.

Last night we took his wheelchair a few blocks away to the pet food store. He was as stubborn as ever in that thing.
He was unable to get up to the bed last night (I can hear him try to climb the ramp) and struggled getting up on the couch even with assistance. Not sure if the using the wheelchair is the cause or activity in general.

sigh....this is so darn frustrating!

this morning after I left he got up on the couch... didn't stay long.
He came out again later, looked longingly at the couch, then left....poor baby

Awww poor Gavin! I hope you get to the bottom of this Cindy, it must be so hard for you to see him struggling.
I stopped in at the vet today to get a weight on Piper and Finnie and saw our vet and I told her how Riley's bottom end went out from under him when he was going down the stairs. She said his nerves are probably being affected (plus all the muscle he lost). The harness should arrive by early next week.

I am sorry Cindy that Gavin is struggling more. Muscle loss is the worst. I sure hope his days are less of a struggle for both of you.

Just a thought, can you put one of the couch cushions on the floor so he can easily get on it and get the feel of the sofa he likes so much?

I just need to accept that even if I do get him back on the couch on his own, this is what life will be like for the next 2 years or so until Gavin's time comes. That is what chronic means :(
He did get up on the couch twice yesterday, so I am not ready to move the cushion down for him yet. there are only 2 detachable cushions, and he likes to spread out on them both.
And he was up on the bed 3 times last night all on his own.

Interestingly, outside he wants to go up the step/curb instead of the ramp to go out to the potty area. I think that he can get a running start so to speak really helps him. He can't do that with either the ramp to the bed or stairs to the couch.

let us know how the harness goes for riley! I think the griptex boooties really help Gavin on walks ,too.

I don't want to jinx things, but Gavin was up on the couch 3x today.. and no walking by and looking longingly before going away. He was upon my bed A LOT last night and this morning as well. I think the chair in the living room is just going to have to wait (and may never happen)

All his PT and exercise has taken a toll on my biking into work. I just can't seem to do it all. So I amdown to biking in twice a week, and the other 3 days are for Gavin exercise.

Wow Cindy, that's wonderful news! It's a lot of work rehabbing a dog but your doing an amazing job. All that PT your doing must be making him feel for mobile while also alleviating some pain. You must be so happy!

i just want my baby to be as happy as he can be. he spends most of his day home alone, and i know he loves sleeping on the couch. i was so sad seeing him sleep in my room all day and notbeable to get on his couch:( now he gets to sleep on the couch during the day and my bed at night. for some reason he won't go up on my bed if Im not home during the day. now if I am out late at night I have found him on my bed when I get home...
