Dog Wheelchair

I saw that on the news yesterday. It was just horrible to watch. Five people have lost their lives. I just can't imagine it. Losing everything.
My heart and prayers go out to them. It is happening too many times... I wish I could send our Michigan snow and rain to them.

Why can't they call out the national guard and air force to fly planes to put down water and flame retardant?

Sadly, it usually isn't about manpower. The fires just move too quickly. There are lots of firefighters from other states who come here to help, and there are planes with fire retardant everywhere. But there is too much dead brush waiting to burn. If we had less fuel it would be easier. People forget most of California is desert without irrigation. In a drought watering is cut back on.

I am watching dogtv...Gavin could care less. I have a 14 day trial so we will see if it catches on!

So today was Gavin's first off leash day since he hurt himself a year ago. A local school has their baseball field fenced in and we can go there early in the morning. Gavin had so much fun running around and barking. Even now, he can outrun me and trying to catch him to leave is a challenge! His running is reasonably normal-ish. I had him in his cart a bit, too. He wasn't too happy when I put him in it, but I understand that since he was so happy without it. I will have to video our next trip there, which will have to be soon. They stop allowing dogs there Nov 30 and won't start again until March 1.

The smoke is still pretty bad, and anticipated to be throughout the week.

Gavin never ceases to amaze me with his drive! So nice to hear! Looking forward to seeing the video!

not the best video of him...he never seems to perform for me when I have the camera on him :)
He does slip every once in a while on the grass when he turns too quickly.

We had our share last December with the Thomas fire and then the freakin' mudslide, so my heart goes out to those communities. It seems like we need to be afraid year around now about fires, unless it's actively raining, which it hasn't much for 6 years down here! Can you take Gavin to an indoor mall area to walk? That's what we had to do last year - my hubby's office has long long hallways so we'd just go in the evening and run the dogs around there when the air quality was horrible.

I also salute you for your tender loving care and thoughtfulness about Gavin.

That's a really good idea! I will need to put Gavin's booties on, as the tile is too slippery. We will get lots of questions (my least favorite part of anything, the whole story literally takes 20 minutes while I am just trying to walk my dog) especially with his cart.
I can try that Friday night and Sunday since it looks like this will last until the middle of next week.

Rain is expected tomorrow, which is very good. Hopefully will help with the fires and clearing out the smoke that we have had for 2 weeks.
It is also bad, all the fire refugees not in housing will be suffering. I know Chico is trying to get everyone out of the walmart parking lot tent city before rain hits, but there just isn't a place to put them.
Good reminder that after a natural disaster, you are on your own for 2 weeks at least!

We went to the dog park today, and Gavin was so happy to see other dogs. And I had to jog to try and keep up with him :) He also moved pretty fast in his cart when I had a ball and chuck-it to motivate him!
