Dog Wheelchair

My moms last dog had a weak trachea, we found that elevating her food and water bowls helped to alleviate the cough.

I have elevated bowls, and I ended up lowering them! It was on the highest, now it is on the middle setting. Gavin was making a mess when they were higher by dropping kibble on the ground. He is still a food hound, but it takes him longer to finish his dinner now.

So we had another underwhelming visit to the beach as there werent very many dogs. Maybe I need to take a week or two off so he misses the beach... Gavin really needs other dogs around him to be all happy and barky, otherwise he really doesn't feel playful :(

So I am thinking of trying fort funston, a SF dog park/beach. I haven't been there in years since the other beach is closer and I never trusted Gavin off leash at funston as it is hugely popular (lots of dogs). But now lots of dogs is what I want and Gavin won't be off leash anyway, but I am leary of the accessibility issues for his wheels. He won't be able to go up stairs and I forget where they are and how much of a limitation they will be. sigh....

So fort funston is on a bluff over the ocean, and I can't easily get Gavin to the beach. although twice he wanted to try! the sand is sand dune so difficult to manage, but there are a few paved IMG_5849.jpg IMG_5841.jpg IMG_5835.jpg IMG_5845.jpg IMG_5847.jpg paths we can take. Lots of dogs to say hi to and lots of people to give him loves....he moved more easily (I didn't need to use bribes), but no fast walking or barking.

We were also limited with Brooke's stroller, couldn't do rough dirt paths at all for fear of the bleeding. Gavin looks like he still had a good time. I think just having a variety of sights and smells is important for them, for the stimulus. You are so great to make so much effort and put lots of thought into what brightens his day.

well, it is partially selfish. I feel better when he has a good time! Gavin got to say hi to dozen of dogs, which he liked. He went up to so many dogs (and people). And he got so many pats and loves from people. He really didn't walk much yesterday at the beach, I wanted him to have some more exercise. hopefully he will sleep well while I go bike to the library and back in a while. Maybe will try a short walk tonite without the wheels.

beautiful pix- so nice that you have these places to take Gavin to:yes:

Oh Cindy, what beautiful pictures!
Made me want to be there with you guys! I get the impression that Gavin enjoyed the fresh air and beautiful vistas. What wonderful memories you are making together! Each trip more special than the next! What a lucky dog Gavin is to have you as his lovingly devoted mom!

Awww.. thanks. He is such a good boy. He really does just love being with me most times I think. He's sleeping next to me on the couch right now, sweet baby.

Fort funston was an old fort..were they had batteries set up to guard the pacific during WW2. They old cement housings are still there, pointing towards the ocean but obscured from view by vegetation. Gavin wanted to check one out, so we did :)
