Justus and Flyer 2018

That's awesome...I hear you with having paid for it you want to compete but I sure would've been much more nervous with no time to prepare. I've been wanting to ask what is Preferred Utility and Open? I'm in Canada and we just have Utility and Open, then Masters (10 doubles) then grand so wondering what's it's comparable to.

Preferred is similar to Preferred in Agility- all the jumps are lower when you get to Open and Utility but all the exercises are the same. The only difference in Preferred Novice was the stays- it was a sit or a down while you walked around the ring instead of group stays. Cran got his Preferred Novice title and Dixie needs one more leg. Not sure how big the differences will be with the changes in stays in the regular classes. We haven't been doing the regular classes so haven't paid much attention to the new stuff.....

OH ok, thanks...now I understand. They changed the stay's here as well for Open so they now have two streams. The original out of sight stays and the new one is position changes and a 3 minute in sight stay. Fortunately Piper is great with his stay's so I'm sticking with the original. Too many people are having issues with signals in utility since doing position changes

Justus is having a real hard time with the position changes, he knows the signal exercise and isn't happy about doing it any other way!

Flyer is much more adaptable, but I'm not going to bet the farm that after Open A he will be ready for utility signals readily...!

In fact, I need to go get those entries in for May 12-13! :)

I'm just curious 2Good if you've ever had any issues with an older dog when you introduced a puppy into the household. Just this past week Piper is acting totally different with his obedience. He refuses to retrieve the glove, he's lagging in his heeling (and he's a forger, always) and on articles he's stopping part way through looking for it and staring at me like he is looking for another command from me. This all started last Monday after Finnie came home. I've started playing with him more and trying to amp him up more but I also need to play with the puppy and I don't want Piper to feel left out. We have a trial in just over 3 weeks and I need to fix this!:gaah

I've been really lucky. Bobby accepted Justus but not as a play mate really, Bobby was a civilized host to his guest. :) Justus readily accepted Flyer... but Justus and Flyer are kin and I am convinced they know it. They sure have a great time together! The wrestling started about 5 minutes after Flyer walked in the door for the first time.... and it hasn't stopped.

Hang in there, Piper has had his world rocked and he will soon figure out he's still #1, but it wouldn't hurt to have some special time alone with him. :) Oh, and buy his forgiveness with cookies.

About the retrieve though, do you have a consequence for failing to retrieve? I don't, except that the dog gets the cold shoulder and I remove all my interaction, including getting the other dog out to play fetch with me!

It was a hot hot hot day on Saturday. When I entered, I had heard we were in an all purpose building without air conditioning but with the chilly early spring we were having - never once thought it would be so dang hot!

Anyway, at least my pre dawn drive down there was good, no rain, no wrecks. :) Arrived an hour before class check in allowed me to get three crates set up, three shelties walked (I have a guest sheltie)

Justus was up first in Masters. I love this boy, only 1 bark!!!! Something went pretty wrong because we scored a 71. I know of 1 IP and should have asked Judge Pat Pierce what else I screwed up...

(I'll post video link in a minute)

Flyer was in Excellent and I was having a bad day. I think we had a 78...
Flyer in Advanced was 99 and 1st! :)

Then it was a grueling hot and dirty wait for the afternoon trials...

Justus in Masters for leg # 8, 87 or something like that. I cost him the 10 IP again, and he had one single bark. (I was so proud of him, keeping his mouth shut!)

Flyer and I got an 80 in Excellent, I think, and a 94 in Advanced, where I had a redo of an exercise... actually, in Excellent, I think I had 2 do-overs because that heat was working my addled brain, well, it could have been any number of things!

Anyway, the beat goes on! Entering Justus in July to hopefully finish up that Rally Master in 10 tries! Flyer will get a one day entry to warm up for Ohio, the very next weekend!!! Wheee!!!! We are going to Ohio!!! :) :) :)

Denise, wish you were here to give me a scruff shake every time I screw up the handling of a rally sign! I am the weakest link...

Oh yeah.. Flyer in Open A... darn... we were nq'd on the new command discrimination exercise. On the judges order to stand your dog (in heel position) he stood for about a nano-second and then sat again. :( :( :( Every other exercise, as pretty as you please!!! :) :) :)
