Justus and Flyer 2018

We've been lazying around, too hot to do much. :) So what do I do? Sign up for an online class. Flyer is in week two of Debby Quigley's online Open class. It's good stuff! I saw Debby in a seminar at the AOC years ago and adored her "larger than life" persona. And boy howdy does she have some awesome dogs! So we have been indoors doing homework. His Drop on Recall isn't as perky as I like, he drops, but really - I think more than one stride after the command is ugly. And the command discrimination exercise isn't quite up to par... so Justus is laying around and Flyer is getting all the work. :D I've also - for the first time ever, tied the scent articles to a peg board to teach Flyer that he's actually searching for the scented article and not just the first one he can grab. Three dogs have successfully (and easily) learned the scent discrimination exercises the way I do it, and then there's Flyer who is going to make me work outside my box! (he's not a boring dog, and although very smart and willing to please, he's um... different. :) )

Justus and I will go to Greenville this Saturday morning and if I can do my part right ... we could come home with his Rally Master title! :) Oh I hope so! I've had two NQ's now and my rally confidence is a bit shaken! Family is driving to watch us, gulp... no pressure or anything. eek!

Flyer is just along for the ride, he's not doing anything but studying for his Open debut this fall. He has his Preferred Open title, but we finished that before the new exercises.

Another neat thing, Justus has qualified and I'm thinking this is our last shot at being eligible for the Obedience Classic in Orlando. We just gotta go once, right? This dog has done so much for me, I want that experience with him!

hope you are all enjoying the summer and haven't been in the path of some rough weather, it's pretty crazy in places!

Ta for now...
Joan and Justus and Flyer

Sounds like you've been very busy...and I'm sure your dogs are quite happy with that!
I've never done online training but then I've got a great trainer (she often does workshops so I'm quite fortunate to have found her)!
Tying down is the same method she taught me and it worked great with Piper!
We're entered in a show 3 weeks from now (5 trials), it's local (woohoo...no driving for 3 hours each day!!) and only 10 minutes from home! Hopefully we can get his Utility title (3 NQ's in a row last time), I think we've worked out the kinks for his articles (was picking the wrong one) but his directed jumping worries me...in class (depending on how our trainer places the jump) Piper will take the high jump when I say bar, he's done it at home sometimes too...drives me nuts and of course worries me:gaah!
After this one another show in October but that's one we'd have to travel to. I hate winter...nothing to do:mad1: lol.

Whew, RALLY MASTER!!! Yay Justus!! on Saturday, July 28 at Dog Obedience Club of Greenville, Judge Ted McCall awarded us a 100, good for 2nd place! Yay! And.. OMG Calliesmom, the title Rosette is AMAZING!!! Way bigger and better than any other!!!

After the show Flyer, Justus and I spent the weekend as houseguests at Stepmom's, who has two girl dogs. :D BIG BIG brag on my dogs who were great...well, mostly. Flyer did go in time out once, but learned his lesson. :D

Piper's Mom, utility is moving target! keep working the pieces and it will come together! You got this... :) :) :)

...,and if the weekend could get any better ~ an email from AKC that Justus has qualified to go to the Obedience Classic in Orlando this December in utility!!! Yay! Getting my entry ready! :) :) :)

Congrats- I knew you could do it...
you said you wanted to go back there for a title sometime- cause you wanted a pic like this
now you are making me think Atlanta? Greenville? but Atlanta is closer............

Extremely stressful morning, but finally, it is done. Flyer has lost his balls. The neuter surgery a success, and they pulled a broken incisor. He is alert and on his feet but due to a heart irregularity during surgery they are keeping him overnight. I'll get to see my buddy tomorrow. :D Poor Flyer, but I think I suffered more! I want a cookie!
