I have been teaching tricks. We’re currently working on ‘stay’ with lots of distractions, picking up objects and placing them in a small cup or my hand, and hiding his eyes with a paw. Anyway that’s the goal - it might end up looking like he’s trying to wipe his nose

Sharon, nose work is a good idea. We’ll try it. The thing about Kip is he loves trick training and could do it all day with no sign that his brain is getting tired. He’s happy while we’re training, but immediately is bored and miserable afterwards.

Try some basic Nosework? Hiding treats in boxes or other containers in a small-ish room - it does tire them out mentally. I feel for you. I'm dreading when Meadow finally gets spayed.

I was thinking the same thing! Nose work requires minimal movement but plenty of mental stimulation.

Good luck Elei, I can only imagine how hard it is going to be trying to get Kip to rest up lol. He is far to intelligent and full of energy to just lay back and watch reality TV all day

Actually, I had YouTube on my TV yesterday and was watching several videos of breeders puppies from my area. Liam watched the TV so intently as the puppies move around to play with each other. At one point he put his front paws up on the TV stand to get a closer look!
So, maybe Kip might be entertained by Sheltie TV?

Brodie has been known to sit and watch TV. He watched the Rose Bowl parade quite intently, all by himself. He watched Nascar and hockey and is known to sit for hours in front of YouTube animal videos... The agility stuff we tried to watch was a fail - he got too hyped up.

I have played music videos for Kip with some success. He loves music. Currently he is actually chewing a rawhide so I’m getting a few minutes of a quiet happy Sheltie!!!

I took Kip to agility class today (not to actually do agility of course) to show the instructor his toe and get a 2nd opinion on whether his gait looks normal. I haven’t been able to detect a limp for about 2 weeks now. She didn’t detect a limp either. This is very encouraging, but his toe still is slightly swollen and just doesn’t feel right to me. I’m still very worried that it’s actually broken, or not healing right. Oh, well, I’ll find out on Thursday.

While we were in town, 2 people correctly identified Kip as a Sheltie (yes this is newsworthy. Most people think Border Collie) but both of them assumed he was a girl

Great to hear that Kip is no longer limping! Hopefully you can get a solid answer on how is doing on Thursday. We need Kip back to his usual self and entertaining us with his tricks haha.

Glad your trainer could not detect a limp! Hopefully, the vet will confirm it is not broken and he can resume training soon!

Smart people that could recognize a Sheltie! I get mini collies or are they full grown??? I say yesss and not a mini collie. Last week at Starbucks both dogs were in the stroller and an older man said oh look border collies! I said how dare you call them Borders...their Shelties! Lol

Fantastic that Kip hasn't been limping, great news! Hopefully you get good news at the vet.
