Mouth/Tongue Sores

Did they do a Snap CPL? The blood test is usually serum lipase, you need to test pancreatic lipase to determine pancreatitis. Snap CPL is a basic negative or positive and can be done at the vet, the more detailed serum CPL has to be sent away to labs so could take longer.

I don't know what test they actually did at the ER- I thought infection too with those numbers....
they did not run that test again- they just checked the pancreas numbers essentially.

The IV and whatever they gave him do seem to have brought those numbers down...
 
What a puzzle. Obviously I'm not a vet or doc, but long-time nurse.... the combo of the three symptoms, mouth sores, high monocyte WBCs and high pancreas numbers don't add up to me. Ingesting something mildly toxic or irritating might explain the sores and the pancreas numbers, but not the WBCs. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this long distance. Hope Cran is at least feeling better.

it is- still not sure what could have caused the array of symptoms. my friend is taking him to my vet when she gets him from the ER.....

at least someone else thinks things are not adding up.....
I know people try to make sure that things don't get mixed up but can't help but wonder if both the blood test sheets were his.......

Cran was feeling better last night- chewed off the IV and was barking- although the ER still wanted to keep him overnight and on the IV.
my friend should be getting him soon...
 
That is hopeful news that Cran was feeling better last night. My Simba has had mouth sores like that from chewing on burdock...his tongue swells and is covered with blisters and his throat swells dangerously and he has trouble breathing...it is rush to emergency time. Needless to say once we figured out what was behind these frightening episodes I no longer walk him in our back fields where the burdock grows. I wonder if Cran chewed on or ate something that he is severely allergic to? But the other test results don't necessarily match up with a life threatening allergic reaction so I hope a total picture of what is going on can be dx'd for Cran. I am so sorry you have to deal with all this long distance...emotionally that is really hard. Sending best wishes for your boy.
