No news is good news?

Ugh, 99% sure he has a fever, suspected one this morning but now am fairly certain he is warmer than usual. And his coat looks awful this evening and his back was a tad hunched when I stood him outside to try and get him to potty. Did finally get him to pee for the first time today but he won't poo - my boy has the bladder of a camel - that was almost 24 hours - not good for him. He is eating so that's a plus. And I did get him to drink a bit of water but not much. Wrist is very swollen, I just iced it and will again every hour till bed.

My poor boy!

If you can pick up digital thermometer in the drugstore, I'd get a temp on him. If it's significantly higher, 103 or more, he should see the vet as soon as possible. Normal for a dog is 101 to 102.5. Anything from 103 up requires attention. If you need an emergency vet, the people at Newtown on Churchhill Road are excellent and open round the clock. You can call them, they're very nice. Let me know if you need their contact info.

Dang, late coming to this thread. Poor Brodie, I agree with Ann, I don't like the fact that he's now possibly got a fever. Definitely a good idea to get a rectal thermometer. Coat it with a little vaseline first. It's absolutely maddening not to have a diagnosis and have your pup be so ill. Sending you healing energy for Brodie.....

I am going based on ‘feel’ could shoot myself for not getting a rectal thermometer when I think Trini was suggesting it a few weeks ago. Goodness, haven’t used a rectal since my kids were babies. I feel he is warm, not raging for sure but doesn’t feel his normal feel to me if you know what I mean. Hubby prob wouldn’t notice, but I do. He is drinking water. Ate dinner. Sits up in his crate each time I go check on him. Is happy to lay on my lap when I ice him. Probably a bit messed up from the Gabapentin I gave him - new experience for him. Don’t think he is a vet emergency as yet, but have no issues carting him off no matter the hour if he changes through the night.

Deacon must know something is off. I gated off the living room where all their crates are and put a beach blanket over the gate so the dogs can’t see each other - else Deacon barks cuz he wants to go be with Brodie. Deacon laid on tge carpet by the front door near the blanketed gate most of today. Think he misses his buddy. Of course, anytime I carried Brodie out to potty, to be iced, Deacon was the younger brother, bratty pup - jumping up to grab hold of hair from Brodie’s beautiful tail. Tomorrow , on top of Brodie, I believe I will be dealing with that fun... ‘I ate hair and its stuck in my poo and I can’t get it all out’ thing with Deacon.

Praying the doxy works on my boy overnight....

I certainly hope Brodie can s feeling a bit better today! I am the type to get to the vet just for my own piece of mind. Prayers that Brodie is on the mend soon. Thanks for keeping up updated on his progress!

Sandy, I hope Brodie made it through the night without too much trouble. Did your vet give you Doxy to try? If Brodie is running a fever that is another symptom that goes with Lyme. You must be exhausted with worry but hopefully you can get this nailed down soon and he will be on the mend. Both my Panda and Laddie ran high fevers with Lyme...Panda at 104.5 and Laddie at 104. Vet said anything higher was an immediate emergency and to take their temps every few hours, but with Doxy both were back to normal temps within a day. As much as no one wants their dog to have Lyme, it is treatable and would be a solid answer to what is going on. BTW fluids are so important and if you feel he is not drinking enough use a small syringe to get water into his mouth.
Trini
