No news is good news?

Doxycycline #3 is in. Doesn't feel feverish this morning. He is a bit perkier but could be because I did not dose the gabapentin. Got a poo and a pee from him, ate and drank. He is in a gated area, no access to furniture but allows me to have his kennel door open so he doesn't feel so cut off. Allows him to lay out on the floor if he wants which is what he is doing right now - probably exhausted from me checking on him during the night. Hubby is bringing me back a rectal thermometer.

Sandy, typically with Doxy a dog is back to acting normally after at most 48 hours. If Brodie doesn't get fully back on track soon I would wonder if there is something else going on and not Lyme or other tick borne disease. I am sure that your vet warned not to give anything containing dairy while he is on the Doxy...it is not dangerous but will render the Doxy less effective. Fingers crossed that today sees Brodie doing really well.

That's good news, Sandy! If his limp improves today you'll have your answer. Three doses of doxy should make a difference, but give it through tonight's dose since he was so sick. Can't hurt to monitor his temp either once you have the thermometer. I like to get a baseline on my dogs when they're healthy so I know when it's up.

Pats and prayers that Brodie is back to his old self today and Bratty Brother can have him back, and you can relax!

Sandy, how is Brodie doing this morning..

He is still lame, but a tad improved. I had sent a video to Ann yesterday and should have taken another of him out today. There is some improvement, but not gone by any means. He is definitely livelier. He did put his paw down on the grass when out for his morning pee - it has been completely up in the air until today. He doesn't feel warm at all, but I won't temp test him again till this evening. The swelling in the joint is about 1/2 of what it was. His paw no longer appears swollen. His coat looks better, his eyes are bright again. He hopped to the stairs after he peed, didn't stand there waiting for me to pick him up, but did obey me when I told him no, to wait for me. He keeps putting his paws up on the gate he is behind, he wants out of jail. No hunched back like Wednesday - I only gave him the Gabapentin Wednesday which is when he started on the Doxy. He just took Doxy pill #5, so 4 completely through his system.

So a bit of progress, just not a miraculous recovery. So this tell me not Lyme's or do I wait the full 72 hours on doxy before determining that?

I would wait for the 72 hours just to be sure, it won't hurt him to go the full time...but the fact that he is not 100% already does make me suspicious that something else is going on. My only thought is that if he has had a tick borne disease for a fairly long time without showing symptoms until just recently, it may take longer to combat...but I still would have expected more of a turn around by now.
Sending good thoughts...it is so draining when a little dog you love is struggling with something and you haven't gotten a solid answer as to what it is or what treatment is required.
Gentle hugs to Brodie.

Here he is just now - head up, perky, bright eyes is a big improvement from 2 days ago, but not a 100% turn around.

Sandy, he is looking really good! Give the doxy more time. Tick borne diseases, esp Lyme, can cause long lasting damage to joints and IF Brodie has been fighting Lyme for a fairly long period and symptoms only showed up lately it may take time for joint damage to repair. Also, I would ask your vet to retest, by now if this is Lyme there should be plenty of built up antibodies in his system to give a definitive answer. If the retest comes back negative then you will know for sure this is not tick related.
