No news is good news?

Also, I would ask your vet to retest, by now if this is Lyme there should be plenty of built up antibodies in his system to give a definitive answer. If the retest comes back negative then you will know for sure this is not tick related.

He originally came up lame on May 3rd. Fine one day, came out of his kennel limping with a swollen wrist on May 3rd. Vet ran the Multiplex test which came back negative. Just like this week, he was fine one day, then came out of his kennel on Tuesday limping. This time the joint was more swollen. I asked for the doxy and a retest on Wednesday - they said to try the doxy first, then a retest on Monday.

Like I said, there IS some improvement, less swelling, no hunching (that was only Weds night), fur looks better, eyes are brighter, he doesn't seem fatigued or depressed as he did Weds and Thursday. He has some energy. Weds and Thurs he would just groan and put his head on my shoulder - his way of a 'hug'. Last night, we laid on the couch together and watched tv while he laid in my lap. He normally loves to watch tv, Weds he wasn't interested, last night he watched with me again.

Sorry to hear he’s not 100% but glad he’s a bit perkier. Just wondering did your vet do an X-ray of the joint and if it’s not Lyme would a splint be an option? Many years ago my Cocker had injured her front leg joint and we ended up splinting it for 2 weeks...was supposed to be 3 weeks but it was early spring/late winter and her paw got damp and she ended up with an infection (in my opinion vet should’ve trimmed her paw fur). Even after the 2 weeks her limp was completely healed. Possibly an option?

Sandy, Brodie's time table is identical to Laddie's. Laddie came up lame 2 weeks after we got him and he seemed tired a lot...our vet figured he had sprained his knee while racing around the yard with Panda and was lethargic as a reaction to the pain. He was put on Meloxidyl for pain relief and to reduce the inflammation/swelling in that joint. Rest for a few days and he seemed 100% back to normal. 3 weeks later he was lame again...much worse this time...lethargic and that joint was so painful he wouldn't even touch it to the ground and was walking on only 3 legs. Test for Lyme came back positive. He did respond fairly fast to the doxy, had a lot more energy and fever gone within 24 hours...but the leg did take a bit longer for the swelling to go down 100%. Brodie looks really alert and happy...which is what would be expected with doxy...it may be that the joint, like Laddie's, just needs more time to repair. If so, you will want him to be on a 3 week course of doxy to fully knock out the Lyme...retesting will let you know if this is what is needed or not.

You've given me hope still that this is Lyme disease - horrible to think that way, but tendon, ligament damage could be the end of his agility days and he LOVES agility! Laddie's story sounds just like Brodie! The vet has him on a 30 day course of doxy. 50 mgs 2x per day for 30 days. We see an acupuncturist/Chiropractor on Monday thanks to Ann getting me in with the doc she sees and will retest on Tuesday for Lyme's.

Thank you for all the support!!!!

I agree, Lyme would be the best dx in this case. Ann is so nice to get you into her acupuncturist/chiropractor on Monday. Fingers crossed for some solid answers that will allow Brodie to continue to do the agility he so loves.

What a frustrating set of events. I've had no experience with Lyme but you've gotten solid advice. Brodie is lucky you are such an attentive mama. And hopefully he will continue feeling better. Nice of Ann to help get you in to the acupuncturist. Fingers and paws crossed here for a definitive answer soon so you know how to proceed.

Yes, they did x-ray the joint and saw nothing. I had asked about a brace, actually ordered two, but they said rest - no brace - the worry was if he had a brace, he might be more active. I will ask again.
Not a brace but a splint, one they would put on. That’s what my dog had worn. Trust me when I say they can’t move the joint with a splint and they definitely can’t run fast lol.
