I’ve been checking for your update, Darren, thanks! I’m so glad Monty will be ok but oh dear, how ever will you keep Mr B from him? That’s going to be quite a challenge! Poor you, your wallet, and your peace! I can’t believe the little guy did so much damage to himself. I hope they gave you some meds to keep him calm while he heals! Give him a soft pat for me and get yourself a stiff drink!

Darren, little Monty looks pretty doped up but thankfully he is home and there is no serious permanent damage beyond the lost teeth. I can't imagine how you are going to keep his spirits up with no Mr. B for 7 whole days!!!!!! I wonder if you gave Mr. B an anti-bacterial bath every night if it might make it possible for Monty to safely carry him around? And I agree with Ann that a stiff drink might be in order for you...it has been seemingly non-stop emergencies for your little lad...and for your bank account!

Have you considered baby gates? Perhaps treat Monty as you would a puppy?

I think you need to rig up a carry collar for Mr B so he can be right there without Monty having to carry him with his mouth.......

Oh my. I can't express how sorry I am. What in the world was he thinking to do himself such an injury? He does look doped up in the photo - I think Calliesmom had a good idea, perhaps attach Mr. B to Monty with a bandana or something so he's right there but not in his mouth. Maybe his pain meds will keep him a bit quieter.
I know this is a hardship to constantly deal with these issues, Darren.

I am so sorry to be late to this thread! Gosh Darren, I just can’t imagine how hard it is on all of you! I am so happy he is home. No words I can offer would be better than all the compassionate words offered. I certainly hope that he can keep calm now! I am just in shock over all this news. Please take care an watch over our little lad! Virtual hugs to you all!

Oh no! Poor Monty!! I’m so sorry to hear about his accident

I’m not sure obedience classes will help keep him out of this kind of trouble, although it’s probably worth a try. He may become more responsive and obedient which is wonderful. But even if he’s better behaved when you’re around to tell him what and what not to do, that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t jump off furniture, run into things, climb on things etc, when you aren’t right there.

If you train him anything (obedience, tricks, agility, nose work) as often as possible in short sessions that might help occupy his brain and get him to be a little less wild in the house.

Just my thoughts.

Kip is a VERY high energy dog, but he is almost always calm and well behaved in the house. The only time he is crazy in the house is when he’s supposed to be resting after an injury because he is so bored that he is just bouncing off the walls. The only reason Kip is normally calm in the house is he gets tons of exercise, off leash running on the farm, herding cattle, agility training, trick training, etc.. And even then He still manages to get injured sometimes because he is so crazy outside

So anyway, I don’t have all the answers but I feel your pain!

Omg I just now read all this! And I'm at a loss for words.
I'd attach Mr B to his collar some how and see if the proximity abates any Broccoli withdrawals during recovery.
Fillion knocked a tooth out of his mouth snagging a fly ball playing fetch. Benson has run head on into a pole. I couldn't believe he didn't knock himself out. Sometimes they just aren't very graceful!
I hope the concussion is no big deal, the loss of teeth will heal...

He appears to be back to 'normal' Monty today with just a few less teeth . He has swelling around his mouth and stitches but I've been given something called Meloxidyl to help his pain.
I've actually ordered some babygates yesterday to try to control him a little better around the home, they should be coming today.
Thanks for the great Mr ideas, I've already had a tantrum this morning from him because he couldn't have him. I'm going to give him an antibacterial wash and then see if I can attach him to the side of his coller. Not ideal for him but it has to be better than no broccoli at all.

It was the back door he ran into, I was at the front of the house so I have no idea why/how it happened. Monty does crazy things all the time so I'm thinking he just decided he was going to jump at the door....I really don't know .

He gets a ton of exercise outside, it doesn't seem to matter whether he gets a little or a lot, he always behaves the same way at home (naughty). He may still have built up energy inside because he can't run around for long without getting really out of breath (due to his illness last year) so I may not be burning it all off.

I don't know if the loss of teeth are going to stop him squeaking Mr B, I hope not as that's his favorite thing to do . I really should have gotten a goldfish after Harley
