Surgery for Checkers

When my first rescue Sheltie Billy had his attack he was in ICU for five days! He was so weak when he got back home. He did so much better after the next few months. I took him to a referral clinic. It was like a huge hospital for animals with specialist doctors. They said he was too weak for removal surgery!

They recommend having ultrasounds every six months. Within four months he had another massive attack and I lost him!

So Ann, thanks for educating us all! Only wish I understood this insidious disease before! I could have taken steps to prevent it!

I know Mr. Chance might not have lasted as long as he did without the preventative ultrasounds and medication!

Thanks to all of you for your good wishes and prayers! Checkers is finally out of surgery and is doing well. Her surgeon said her gallbladder was full so it was a good call to get the surgery done now. Thank heaven for ultrasounds and my vigilant vet. She may be able to come home late tomorrow, but more likely Thursday. I can't wait to have her back!!

I'm just so happy to see Checkers has done so well, and it sounds like not a minute too soon to have that surgery! How very scary this somewhat silent condition is! I know you are anxious to have her home to spoil her while she recuperates, Ann. Please give her a pat for me.

I'm so happy the surgery went well and Checkers is recovering...you must be so relieved. I'm going to talk to our vet when Piper has his next check up (he's just going to be 3 in two months but it doesn't hurt to get all the info I can.
