Trying to decide whether to euthanize our wonderful puppy

This is a mile in your shoes I pray I never have to walk. There should have been no hesitation by that breeder to do what's right IMHO. However I have been informed not everyone thinks of their dogs the way I think of mine.
Now to get the best possible outcome for his legs...

I agree with Margi , and I will continue to say a prayer for both you and Fainly
Hi again, everyone. I'm writing to say I finally understand just what our puppy's problem is. It helped me to see the orthopedic doc's actual report, and I thought I'd share his findings with you. He has a bilateral angular limb deformity starting at the level of the distal tibial growth plate. This is caused by him having a very abnormal growth plate, with each leg having one side of the growth plate which has apparently stopped growing while the other side has widened. The cause for this abnormal pattern is not known at this time. And of course he was diagnosed with IBS and given a lot of different medications, so that may play a part or not; don't know that yet. I thought you might like an update because I wasn't very clear about why his tibias were growing at an angle, and now I understand. Thank you again for your kind and helpful replies to our situation. We believe we have a top-notch orthopedist; orthopedics is the focus of this entire practice, so we think we are in good hands.

It does sound like you have the best possible medical support for Fainly and I hope with all my heart that something can be done so your precious boy can go on to have a pain free life.
Thank-you for keeping us posted...I think we all feel a deep connection to Fainly and to you as you travel this incredibly tough journey...and we all pray for a happy ending.

I am so sorry to hear about what you are going through. What a tough decision. I've been trying to form my thoughts for a while.

I couldn't imagine having to make this decision. Whatever you decide I know it will be the right one, even if it doesn't feel like it. I just wanted to share my experience with Mr D. He had elbow dysplasia, early onset arthritis and IBD (which eventually turned to cancer).
I don't think Deska's elbows was as bad as Fainley, but by the time he was diagnosed (age 2yrs) it was too late for corrective surgery and arthritis had set in.

I loved Deska more than life, but gosh it was hard work. He was such a happy dog, but he spent most of his life in pain. And as a result was very barky and clingy. Balancing managing pain relief with IBD is so hard. And it is costly and time consuming. Wherever I went and whatever I did, I needed to take Deska's needs in mind. He was on lots of medication, constant vet visits, physiotherapy, strollers, supports, vet visits (I know I said that but there were a lot). He was a dog so of course did things he shouldn't, then we all paid for it.

He lived until shy of his 12 bday, taken by an IBD-related cancer, which was hastened by the medication. He lived his best life, and probably a longer life than would have been expected. But it was hard work for me. I don't regret having him, I loved him so much, maybe even more so because of the investment I put into my 'special needs' boy. And my heart was absolutely shattered when he died - it still is. But sometimes I wonder if the breeder did the right thing by hand rearing him when his dam couldn't.

I know instructors who went down the road of major surgery with youngsters with leg problems. Sometimes the dogs were fine, sometimes they developed behavioural issues due to their pain or deformities.

I'm glad you have an Ortho vet who can give you advice. I hope you feel like you can come here and talk to us all about your decision, whatever it is. No judgment. You can always use the Premium Members chitchat section if you want some privacy. We all want to support you at such a difficult time. Wish I could give you a big hug.:hugs
