Tully's not doing well

Oh wow...I would be shocked too Caro! What time is her surgery? All fingers and paws crossed that the surgery goes well! I'll definitely be saying a prayer for you and Tully tonight! Please keep us posted Caro!
She's just coming out now. Not even sure I can drive down atm, I'm stressed out from the wait. If I wait a bit longer to take her food maybe she'll be awake and I can see her. The surgeon didn't let me cuddle her when he took her away (thought it would be too stressful to give her back).

I can't even imagine how stressed you must be, especially after what you went through with Deska!
I'm glad she's out of surgery, praying that she comes out of it ok and she improves!
Any idea how long she'll stay in? Tully will be chasing the puppy around in no time!

Just saw Tully briefly when I dropped off her food, held her for a while but put her down because it hurt too much. She was so awful, shaking with pain, cold, barely able to move and she peed on herself (and me). Surgeon said I should be able to take her home tomorrow, but I can't see how, how will I manage her pain? Since the government tightened up prescription of opioids it's next to impossible to get pain relief for animals other than NSAIDs, and Tully can't have them.

It did remind me so much of when I lost Deska. Our Shelties are so good at hiding pain, but I recognise now the shallow breathing, the partially open mouth with the set jaw, and of course trembling when the pain is extreme. My poor little old baby girl.

Awwww...poor Tully!
Did the surgeon talk to you about the condition of the gallbladder or how the surgery went? If you don't think you can care for her make them keep her in another day, better for Tully. Hopefully they send her home with good pain meds!

Caro, I'm so sorry I'm just seeing this now. I don't recall getting antibiotics for either of my girls, but we did get gabapentin for pain. It's not a NASID and many of our vets are using that now for pain. I found it really effective for Checkers when she had her skin graft surgery and she took it long term, for nearly two months with no ill effects.

Here is the description of it if you want to ask your vet for it:
Gabapentin is used as an anticonvulsant, sedative, anxiolytic, and to treat chronic pain syndromes, including neuropathic pain. It is used to treat neuropathic pain that does not respond to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or opiates.

How horrible about the confusion in having her surgery done! I can imagine how you feel. I'm surprised they let you see her the same day, my dogs had to stay overnight and were kept medicated the day of. They both came home the day after, but that's only if they're doing well.

PM me if you have any questions, I'll get your message faster since I'm not on the Forum as much due to work at this point.

God Caro what a shock but at least it's now over. Really hope with every fiber of my being that she pulls through this even with the rough part. Good advice from Ann on the gabapentin. I understand completely the state of anxiety and fear you are in. Every finger and toe and paws crossed here for sweet Tully.

Oh Caro! My heart just sank reading your recent posts! What a terrible mixup. I swear in the era of Covid it seems nothing is going normal with vets these days!
I am so sorry for dear sweet Tully. I am numb just thinking about you holding her in in such a fragile state!
I certainly hope the vet sends you home with pain meds that are not harmful to her as Ann suggests! I am beyond saddened at her having to go through the surgery but hopefully you will have her home to recover. Virtual hugs to you both!
