Urgent! FOUND COLLIE. Need advice & info ASAP

Ania

I only just got home from work and found this thread. There's nothing more I can say that hasn't already been said! Just know that you probably saved this dog's life and gave him a 2nd chance! You are an angel.

Your instincts were correct to keep the pups separated, as much as that broke your heart. But nothing would be served by all the pups coming down with something. At least, he had a good night in warmth and with food and fresh water, and now will be looked after by the rescue.

Take heart, Ania! I'm sure he'll be fine now! Will the rescue give you updates on him? He is so beautiful!

Oh I know that they are similar and I wish I could keep him, but I just cannot afford it right now at all. If there was a way, I would. I've been feeling guilty over it all day. I've cried so much today, I don't think I have any tears left. I'm just in turmoil - I feel his pain, his saddness, his loneliness when I look into his eyes. It kills me, but I just cannot keep him. I am completely guilt ridden over this - I keep thinking maybe there is a way, maybe I can scrimp some more here etc. but he will need a lot of vet care and I just cannot afford it right now. I feel horrible, really I do.

Ania,
I cannot add any more than what everyone has already said. You are a kind and loving person, and as much as it is hurting right now,you did a wonderful and loving thing to stop, and bring this guy home wih you. It was fate that brought you to that place, that you saw him,and loaded him in your vehicle.

I hope that the collie rescue will be able to give you updates. There is big things planned for this guy,and you have made that possible for him to live his elder years in a loving home.
Big hugs to you~

I realize I'm repeating whats been said too.

You have nothing to beat yourself up over. Sure, feel disappointed that you can't keep him, I've brought home enough strays in my life time to know there's no way to avoid that disappointment. Most times it seems that you're meant to be the rescuer, but not meant to be the forever home.

But that doesn't negate the fact that you did a wonderful thing by taking him in and taking the time to turn him in to a rescue group instead of just dumping him at the humane society.

Instead of feeling bad, give yourself a great big pat on the back because you did a REALLY great thing and have made a HUGE difference in that dogs life. He may not have survived another night of being exposed to the elements.

I loved what you said Ontario about allowing Ania to feel the disappointment and really no way to avoid that feeling. Sometimes we need to be allow ourselves to feel our feelings, get closure on them, then we can move on!

Just thinking out loud here....Since Ania desperately wants to helps this little guy out still is there anyway a rescue organization could pay for the bills while she keeps him in her home?

I know as well as you all do that rescues are over run with animals as are the fosters the animals stay in. I was thinking maybe JUST maybe a rescue organization could pay for all of little mans medical bills..!?!?:smile2:

If we start a drive here, I would donate, if Ania wants to keep him.

I will donate and Ill get my friend to donate if you all want to help Count us in. My heart is breaking over this too! So if you start a Help the Collie fund Im already on board! My furkids already gave this thread 4 paws up!...:wink2:

Ania you did a wonderful thing in bringing this collie into your home and caring for him. Whether that caring turns into just a few days or a lifetime, pets in need have a way of grabbing onto the heart of a giving and kind person.

Make the decision that you need to make; and we will support you. The Collie Rescue organization will certainly let you know if they have a program that will allow you to continue to foster this collie.

Trust me when I say that I know EXACTLY how your are feeling. In my case, I said "I can't afford it" and cried for hours and then told my hubby "its just money" and went for it. In my case its a matter of me working extra shifts but I feel that Newton has been worth every extra work hour.

Thanks guys. You guys are the best. But you see its more than just money - I drive a small Geo metro - he took up the entire back seat! I would not be able to fit him and my two shelties in the car with me at once. And because he has arthritis in his legs, he had such a hard time getting in and out of the back seat (the metro is a small hatchback, two door, and the hatch does not open!)
Thank you for your kindness, the kind offer and most of all your support. I pray that they will at least find a long term foster for him as she does not think that he will be able to be placed permanently due to his age and condition. So, that is my Christmas wish - that he finds a loving home to live out his days. Thank you again.

Ania
Will the collie rescue keep you posted on where he is and how he is doing?
Thank you so much for initially rescuing him. You did save his life, Ania. If
you get any current information on him please keep us posted. How are your
2 shelties doing? There's been a lot going on at your place. I wish I could give you a big hug for all you did, and my Mally would give you kisses, our daughter, Emily taught him "kisses" when he was a puppy.

Yes, I told her to keep me posted on how he is doing. Maybe over the holidays I will go and visit him with my two and bring him a Christmas treat or two. I had her take the pillow he was sleeping on. He seemed to really like it. It was my first sheltie Dorian's favourite bed to sleep on. Chinook loved it too, but I thought he needed it more than Chinook does - Chinook and Maia have many beds including mine to choose from. Thank you again and please pray that he finds a foster home or a forever home.
