Urgent! FOUND COLLIE. Need advice & info ASAP

Also, it takes like maybe 20 minutes twice a week to brush your dog? :rolleyes2: Did she end up shaving him, or did she just cut the mats out?

Neither, actually, she is slowly working through the mats and getting them out. She says, he only lets her work on him for 10 minutes at a time. She says she has some special method so that she does not have to shave the dogs. It takes much more time, but since it is winter here, it is better for the dog. Bless her for it.

This lady sounds like she's a very special person. Getting the mats out of that fur must be a horrendous job. I admire her patience.

Well you obviously found an awesome foster for that poor collie.

May the person that neglected and starved that poor baby grow boils on her behind and have violent explosive diarrhea every time she sees a dog or goes past a pet store. And may dogs parade past her every hour and may there be 10 pet stores between her house and where she works.

Hilda called me today with an update on the collie. He is doing well. She says he is starting to even play a little with the other dogs. He is still underweight. He weighs 60 lbs, and for a male collie that is about 15-20 underweight. She is still working on getting the matts out, although she is 80% through.

So since I've talked to her last, she said that they did find his 'owner'. Hilda was contacted by the pound here. The lady said that they DAY I found him, is the day that he got loose from her yard!!!!!!!!!! Hilda and I were both in shock to find that out. The condition that he was and still is in is deplorable! He was mistreated for months to get to that state. His nails are still 1/2" too long and that is after Hilda cut them back. Hilda does not think he was ever bathed. He was not taken to the vet for 9 years she found out. He probably was kept outdoors all the time. By law, Hilda would have to give him back to this person, but luckly for the collie, the 'lady' said that she no longer wanted him due to a family emergency or something. THANK GOD! Hilda's vet said that if this person wanted this dog back, to bring the dog to him first and he'd get involved. The collie is 10 years old, but due to the loss of muscle mass, and everything he is looking and acting a lot older. Also, I thought he was debarked when I first got him, but actually he's not. Apparently Hilda says he is now starting to bark, and his bark is coming back stronger - so he was just too weak to bark! Poor guy. Thankfully Hilda is looking after him and getting him on the road to recovery.

She said she will send me pictures once he is a bit stronger and looking better.

Thank-you so much for the update! This poor collie will definitely be loved and taken care of for the rest of his life.

Quite a visual you have given us Janet

Wow defiantly sounds like he had a guardian angel working with him on the day of his escape to put you in just the right place at the right time!!
What a horrible "owner"!! Your right he knows who mistreated him and thats why he acted the way he did...So glad he is starting to come out of his shell and be able to be a happy Collie!

I'm glad he is doing well. Because of you this sweet boy's elder years will be the best years of his life. I hope he finds his forever home.

Another puppy saved! As said below, some angel must have been looking out for him....getting him loose and having you find him at exactly the right time!
