I also find that Piper and Riley will lick anything outside that's wet with dew or rain, drives me crazy but then perhaps it just tastes better to them?
I second looking into joint issues, dogs are really good at hiding discomfort. Try giving him a massage and look for any signs that something is bothering him. I know with Piper I look for any sign of a limp or if he gets up funny and favours his left leg (nothing now but I'm so careful about not letting them run like crazy).
Of course there's always the possibility he's just showing his displeasure for the puppy...Piper now has the habit of going upstairs when I go out, he will refuse to come down for anything (will come down for a cookie but run right back up)... Even if I take Finnie with me Piper goes up!
Another thought, perhaps it's just him adjusting to your home? I know he's been with you awhile but with the added stress of the pup who knows. Perhaps try walking him alone and see if his behaviour changes...maybe he needs more one on one time with you?
Good luck and keep us posted.
I will certainly try one on one walks! He is such a good boy that it would break my heart if he felt I was not giving him enough attention. Interesting that your boys also lick moss, dew, etc!
