ALERT - Senior Sheltie Riley in Michigan needs a home!

I am EXTREMELY sad to report the news is NOT good...

"I talked to her this morning. Bottom line was, "we'll call you if we need you.". They are not going to release Riley yet. Insist on trying to adopt him out themselves. There is nothing more I can do, except wait to see if they call. It is so frustrating dealing with some of these shelters. In the past, I have very good working relationships with many of the directors. Then they change, move around and new ones come in and change the procedures. "

Why did she tell me to have Carol reach out again? Why did she give me the impression that she understood the rescue is the best place for him. I am beyond sad... I just hope he does not get placed so they are forced to call Carol! :mad::mad::mad::mad:

This is so wrong!!!! Little old Riley has got to be terrified in the noisy crowded surrounding of a shelter. And sadly even if they get him adopted most people who adopt a dog from a shelter are neither aware of or prepared to handle the expense that a senior doggie may/will need in medical care. They just see that they are getting a sweet little older doggie at a cheap price...and may love him...but love is not all he will need. I am heartsick about this and truly cannot understand the shelter's refusal!

That is just SO wrong! Reminds me of the shelter who refused to return a dog to its rightful owner because the owner was a breeder. Some of these shelters think they know best and won’t listen to reason. Just wrong!
 
I am sad, mad and perplexed to hear this. What is in it for them to keep him after we've offered to pay their fees? Most shelters are glad to work with breed rescues, the one I volunteered at sure did. But in one instance, I was an undercover adopter for a deaf Australian Shepherd from a shelter that wouldn't let him go to Aussie rescue. I had fostered a dog for the lady once and she asked me if I'd be willing to pose as a regular adopter. I said sure. After I got the sweet boy I turned him over to her and she paid me back the adoption fee. He was adopted pretty quickly through the rescue group even with his disability.

Too bad they know who you are at the shelter Gloria.
