Dog Wheelchair

He was able to do the ramp to my bed all by himself (only once) last night :)
I helped him with the last mini ramp to the bed, it is more difficult for him.
Tripod stands are still difficult, it only takes a few seconds before the bad leg gets shaky and starts to slip, though.
I think we will try the beach today in his cart

It sounds like Gavin is slowly getting his muscle strength back. Pretty soon he'll be up and down the ramp to the bed all night! Have fun at the beach, I'm sure Gavin will love it!

Um, yes, he was last night! no help needed :) The big one is the couch, I think that will take a while.
Gavin had a great time at the beach, probably staid too long (he was limping worse when we got home) but he was having so much fun. I can actually tell by how he walks in his wheelchair when he has gotten tired, but that only helps so much as parking is a good 15-20 minutes walk for Gavin from the main beach.

Got some nice snuggles last night, too. He curled up next to me, laid his head on me, and took a short nap. very sweet boy.

So I got a surprise yesterday when I got home and Gavin was on the couch! He hadn't been up since before my vacation.
Last night we had a good walk at the local park, and then today he was back up on the couch!
So the week off didn't do him too much harm.

not to be all positive, Gavin tried to go up his ramp to my bed last night and slid all the way down :( But he did make it up 3-4 times last night.

That's wonderful to hear Cindy! You must've been very pleasantly surprised to find Gavin on the couch.
Persistence paid off for Gavin to make it on the bed.

I can just picture him sliding off lol but just like the little red train...I think I can became I know I can!

He made it almost all the way up, but then his leg gave out and he slowly slid backwards!
I would have laughed but it was MY baby.

He didn't even wait for me to go to bed last night, I hadn't even made the bed (I washed sheets last night and the sheets weren't on the bed yet) and he was on his way up the ramp.
He's never done that before, he waits until I am in bed and turn out the lights.

Come on mom... it's bed time!!!! I need my cuddles NOW!

Well, to be fair, there are not generally cuddles on my bed. He lays by my feet, not even touching me most of the time.
I just can't leave without him knowing, as he usually wakes up when I get up even to go pee.
Since he can't hear me anymore, I attribute it more to that than wanting to be near me.
He has started laying down on the floor by the couch in the evenings, effectively trapping me in a corner where I have to walk over him.

I overdid it this weekend..we had a hill walk on saturday morning and today we went to fort fuston for a wheelchair walk to meet people and dogs. Poor Gavin could barely keep his eyes open this afternoon to make it from one dog bed to another.

we can only do the beach or fort funston on the weekend, but trying to get in the hill walk was a mistake :(
I normally try for 2 days in between exercise, or 1.5 days if it is just a short walk. But beach/fort funston are more taxing and can last 1-2 hours so I should have known better. But i know Gavin won't hold it against me :) maybe I'll even get some snuggles tonite!
