Gavin's radiation treatment

No more cornstarch!!!! I can attempt to clean up the house a bit now. It has wormed its way into all sorts of nooks and crannies.

Vet was super impressed with how much Gavin has healed since last Friday. He wasn't expecting it at all, but then most owners don't actually do the soaks and all like recommended. Meds are cut back, which we need. Gavin is getting back to his spunky self. I think we might try short walks soon; problem is excited Gavin still 3 legs it while sedate Gavin will walk slower on all 4s.

Still gonna be in that cone for a while, though.
As Gavin gets spunkier, less snuggles for me I'm afraid. I will miss those
:sadsmile::sadsmile:

Cindy, tell Gavin that you still want those snuggles and that you deserve them for all you have gone through!! I am so happy to read that he is doing well!

That really is looking tons better, Cindy. Now if feeling better Gavin can just be an angel and not drive his Mom crazy........

Gavin is feeling so much happier now that he isn't on pain meds as much.
Much more active. And hasn't tried to lick his foot once :) Still coned at night and when I'm not home, obviously, but he has been behaving under supervision.

we slowly walked to the post office next door. As long as I keep it slow, we are good. If it speeds up at all he goes to 3 legs.

I am still doing soaks, even though vet said I could stop. I still have a container of the solution in the fridge, so I am doing quick compress/soaks followed by spraying with Aloe this weekend. Probably wont do it during the week. I figure it can't hurt, especially since it is wet outside and Gavin is enjoying going in and out a lot this weekend. And if it helps the scabs come off that is all good :)

So nice to hear your progress, now provides all the meticulous care bonus.

Also good to read between the lines that you're about to get a grip on your daily life again :fl

we went to a friend's to watch football today.
Gavin had a blast; she has 2 kids and they were playing with him. He was super well behaved with her 1 year old boy, too. Seriously have never seen a dog be so calm around 2 screaming kids. He walking on all 4's exclusively.
He also got to clean their kitchen floor, his favorite activity :)
I wasn't sure he was gonna be up for it, but he got all excited when I got ready to leave I couldn't not take him.

Basically, all the scabs are starting to fall off as the dry out. There is only a small X type mark in the center that is still a bloody scab (that is where they centered the radiation and they marked up his leg with a pen), the rest is just waiting to fall off over time of with a teeny bit of help.. Nice pink skin, too.
This is his 12th day post radiation. I am think he is gonna be looking great in a few days :biggrin2:

He is walking on 4 legs almost exclusively now, too.
