Dog Wheelchair

As for animals and people in their senior years... mental and physical stimulation keeps the body and mind young! Gavin is proving that is spades!

How much is too much? We walked 5 straight days in the morning. This morning was raining. It looks like tonite will be OK and MAYBE tomorrow morning (that is likely to change though).
Gavin is not a fan of walks in the dark like he is the morning..should I try and get him out anyway? It would not be one of his fun walks either, but a walk around the block more or less..

I kinda think they just like to get OUT most days. My group had a bit of cabin fever this afternoon after being inside while it rained all day. They just seem to need a breath of fresh air and a change in the routine. We are supposed to get a lot more starting tomorrow afternoon and overnight again, but nice by the weekend.

I am sure he would prefer a walk either around the block than nothing at all! Just a guess...

I decided that walking in the dark on city sidewalks was not worth it last night. we waited until this morning and went to a local park. I am just trying to balance working Gavin's leg enough, not working it enough, and Gavin enjoying his walks.

So today I decided to take Gavin to the local dog walk area with an off leash area. Now the off leash area is up a hill. It is too steep for Gavin in his wheels. So I decided to use my collapsible cart and pull him up the hill. with his wheelchair on the back. So like 50-60 lbs of dog stuff to lug. Not doing that anytime soon! IMG_5351.JPG IMG_5352.JPG
Once we got to the area with the grass, Gavin was roaming for about 10-15 minutes tops as the area is still a bit hilly.

I have to admit that while being off leash looks all nice and freeing, Gavin will mostly just eat grass if I leave him be. Not very thrilling. Although he loves the fact that lots of other dogs are there to greet, so we will keep going (without the cart bit).

Wow, 50-60lbs uphill! You are one strong and determined lady! Great job!
Funny, eating grass was one of Mr Chances favorite things to do! I would find the newest and tender strands and offer it to him one by one! He so enjoyed that attention in his latter years! Gavin just seems to enjoy his strolls so much! Nice to see him off leash too so he can sniff and pick grass at his leasure!

Again..why we aren't doing that park of that hike again! If the off leash area was more extensive I might, but it isn't large enough for Gavin to really roam. The local off leash park area opens up again 3/1 so we will just wait for that. Today we went to a different local-ish park I'd never been to. It's main things is to go up a large hill, so the trails are only workable for Gavin for a short bit. The entrance to the park is a long decline, and I was surprised how well Gavin did on the way back on the incline.

Wow...lugging 50-60 pounds uphill! Are you crazy? Lol
Your going to need someone to push you! I guess it must be hard though to find different places to walk him so it's interesting for Gavin.
