Lazy or sick?

I use a soup ladle (one designated for doggie pee catching only!) and if Scout gets stressed by your bending over him when he pees you can duct tape a long stick to the ladle handle so you don't have to be bending over him. Have him on lead so he can't get away from you and pee somewhere else. Make sure you keep the urine sample in a cool place if it is going to be several hours before you are headed into the vet's...you can even put it in the frig. If you can get the first morning urine that is preferred but if not a later pee is OK...just let your vet know it is not the first morning urine. You can use a well washed small jar from some food...like a jar from a jam or jelly...to put the pee in. Make sure the jar has been well washed and dried so as not to contaminate the urine sample.

Thank you, Trini. Things I needed to know.

This kind of lethargy really sounds like Lyme to me. They don’t always have a fever. If he’s still eating and interested in food that’s good. But I agree it’s best to have him seen as soon as possible. If he does have Lyme they’ll treat him with doxycycline which is very effective and they improve quickly. Sending good thoughts for him.

I use a chicken treat feeder that a friend gave us. It's got a nice length handle and a little tray on the end. I can carry it and once the pee starts, grab a sample. I put in a ziploc bag labeled with name, date and time of collection and then put that bag inside another ziploc bag and store in the fridge until appointment time. When we leave for the appointment, I add 2 ice cubes to the outer ziploc.

Having just been through Lyme's this year with Brodie, I'd ask for a full blood panel as mentioned above and a Lyme's test.

I agree with Ann and everyone else who is thinking possibly Lyme. Both my Laddie and my Panda had Lyme even though they had been vaccinated for Lyme and got topical anti-tick meds every month. They did run a high fever, but as Ann says fever is not always present and the level of lethargy you are seeing in Scout is typical of a tick borne disease. Hope you get an answer soon and any treatment needed.

Scout woke up this morning and acted totally normal. He played with Ginger, chasing and fetching the ball. He ate his breakfast and peed and pooped. He does not at all act like he is uncomfortable. Go figure.
