What you've started looks like a great plan. Would like to mention that if you need prozac/fluxetine, Wal-Mart Pharmacy has it:
Prozac 20mg cap Brand name, 30 day supply for $4.00/30 caps
Fluxetine 20mg cap generic brand, 90 day supply for $10.00/90 caps
I remember that the Vet gave me a presciption in my name, since the medicine my dog needed was only available for people.

Hope you don't needs to go this way, if the homeopathic way works.

Again, the pricing in Canada is totally different. Its almost a dollar a pill here, no exceptions, believe me I've looked. But thanks for the info.

Update

Toby seems to be doing ok, not sure how much the homeopathic meds is working though. It clearly helps him when I give it to him, but I've been instructed to only give it to him when he needs it, that it should help his body to naturally start working again. I'm not sure if he's doing better this time than the last time I decreased his meds.

Toby hasn't been going for regular walks, which is when he's at his worst. I've been too sick for the past couple of weeks to get him out. One walk I had him on he did fairly badly, even though it was a short and relatively low stress walk. I didn't give him the homeopathic remedy before leaving.

The next walk I took him on he did very well, even though it was a longer, more stressful walk. I did give him his homeopathic meds before leaving.

He's been good in the house, especially since I've been alternating his dose between 10mg generic prozac and 16mg of Reconcile. I've also been trying to get him off of the Lactium and onto L-theanine, which I can get much cheaper. They've been replacing telephone polls in our area and we have one right next door to us. This stresses Toby out at times but he's been recovering from the stress pretty well.

Everyone's doing well on Acana instead of Orijen. Their poops are smaller and more formed and the seemed to love the taste just as much, if not more than the Orijen.
 
A friend is just starting her dog on fluoxetine and was also shocked by the cost. It cost her $90 for one month's worth.

Its nice to know that Canada isn't the only place with outrageous drug costs. I can't for the life of me understand why so many Americans buy their medication in Canada. Maybe its just some medications that are cheaper....
 
Was thinking about you and Toby today. Thanks for the update Melissa. Are you feeling better?

I think that Canada has caught up to the higher end of drug prices. It was true that once upon a time their meds were cheaper but it doesn't seem to be anymore.

Hope they have those poles fixed and Toby is as settled as he can be.

Update

Toby seems to be doing really well. Its a very subtle change so I'd really like to believe its the homeopathy that's doing it. He just seems...more balanced, normal. He doesn't get upset as often and when he does he recovers much more quickly.

This is saying a lot since I'm still alternating the doses of his medication. This week I'm going to start giving him Reconcile less often and see how he does. :fl

My homeopath hasn't been as excited by his change as I am. She's disappointed he hasn't responded better, she said he relies on the homeopathic remedy too much so we're going to change his treatment a bit and see how he does. :fl

I also just bought Control Unleashed as a late Bday present to myself and Toby (who turned 3 in March), so looking forward to reading it and working through its exercises. I think Toby will really benefit from Premack Principle.
 
Feeling Discouraged

Things in general have been better.

The weather's been nicer, I've been able to get out more with the dogs and I've been able to get some full time hours into work since I haven't been sick as much. Which means we haven't been as strapped for cash.

Toby's anxiety has continued to slowly improve with the help of the homeopathic remedy. In a few more weeks I'd hoped to have Toby on the lower dose of prozac.

But the nicer weather also means the construction near my house has begun again. Toby's been doing really well but the construction that begun again on Monday is slowly turning Toby into a nervous wreck again. He's tense and stressed on walks and in the house he barks at every sound he hears outside and hides beside me. The other night he scared the heck out of us barking at something he heard outside.

And just when we're getting our finances straightened out, Ginny needs dental surgery. A tooth she broke a year ago is becoming a problem and needs to be pulled, at a cost of $400. :gaah

I'm going to be seeing the homeopath this weekend, I'm hoping she can suggest something for Toby. I feel so sorry for him and so frustrated! The construction is only active when I'm not home so all I can do is try my best to seclude him from the construction noisesand can't work with him!
